The Setup videos page contains tutorial videos to help you understand how to format your product descriptions correctly for Variant Descriptions King. Whether you are setting up accordions and tabs for the first time or adding variant-specific descriptions, these videos walk you through everything step by step.
Create tabs and accordions
Organize long product descriptions into structured, easy-to-read sections using tabs or accordions. To create a tab or accordion, simply write a title using the selected heading format in your product description. The section will automatically end when another tab or accordion starts, or at the end of the description.
Variant-specific descriptions
Display unique descriptions based on the selected variant. Use variant hashtags in your product descriptions to show relevant information dynamically, ensuring customers see the right details for each variant they select.
Non-collapsible sections
Some information should always be visible and not hidden inside a collapsible accordion. To create a non-collapsible section, start the title with an asterisk ( * ). The section will have the same design as an accordion but will always remain open and visible to customers without needing to click.
FAQs
How do I add a variant-specific description?
To add a description for a specific variant, use a variant hashtag at the beginning of the section. For example, to display content only for the Red variant, add #Red before the description.
Can I add multiple hashtags for a single section?
Yes. If a section should be visible for multiple variants, add multiple hashtags at the beginning. For example, #Red #Blue will show the section for both Red and Blue variants.
How do I target multiple variant options together?
Use a hyphen ( - ) to combine multiple option types. For example, #MensTshirt-Green will show the section only when both "Men's T-Shirt" and "Green" are selected.
What if I want a section to appear for all variants?
Simply use #All at the start of the section and it will be displayed regardless of which variant is selected.
Are variant hashtags case-sensitive?
No, variant hashtags are not case-sensitive. However, using CamelCase — for example #MensTshirt instead of #menstshirt — is recommended for better readability.
How should I format variant hashtags?
Remove spaces, punctuation, and special characters from the product option name when writing hashtags. For example, "Men's T-shirt" should be written as #MensTshirt. Use the same heading tag as the accordion or tab title to format variant hashtags consistently.
How do I handle variant-specific descriptions for stores selling in different languages?
If your store sells in multiple languages, you need to translate the variant-specific descriptions manually. Use Shopify's Translate & Adapt app to translate the description into different languages. In the translated description, ensure that the variant hashtags match the translated option names and values. For example, if "Red" is translated to "Rojo" in Spanish, the hashtag in the Spanish description should be #Rojo.
