For definitions on some of the terms below or refreshers on constraint basics, please visit our Constraints article!

This article contains constraints that deal with hiding courses or criteria within the audit. Typically, hiding courses is done for aesthetic purposes to reduce the amount of scrolling within the audit. The constraints are listed at the top and bottom of the article, with the bottom of the article containing more details about each constraint.

Constraints at a Glance

  • Hide the program GPA [Program Level Constraint] [Primary Constraint]

  • Add specific hidden courses to a course set [Primary or Secondary Constraint]

  • Add hidden course patterns to a course set [Primary or Secondary Constraint]

  • Add hidden course enrollment tags to a course set [Primary or Secondary Constraint]

  • Hide this constraint from students [Advanced Option]

  • Hide this requirement from students [Secondary Constraint]

  • Matched courses are only shown in expanded mode [Secondary Constraint]

  • Courses that are only counting toward this requirement are listed below [Secondary Constraint]

Constraint Details

Hide the program GPA [Program Level Constraint] [Primary Constraint]

Stellic will automatically show a GPA calculated using only classes in a specific program (major, minor, etc). You can add this constraint to remove the program GPA from view. This can only be added at the program level, so it is only valid for the top-most requirement in an audit.

Add specific hidden courses in a course set [Primary or Secondary Constraint]

This constraint enables you to add courses to the audit that are not visible to the student unless the student has taken the course. This is particularly useful for course that may not have been offered in some time, so you don't want to display them to students but still want them to count for requirements. This option is available under the constraint at least [x] courses from a given course set.

The courses will always be visible to any admin viewing the audit, but students will only see the course reflected after they have taken or registered for the course.

Add hidden course patterns in a course set [Primary or Secondary Constraint]

Similar to the constraint above, this constraint enables you to add course patterns to the audit that are not visible to the student unless the student has taken a course that matches the pattern used. This option is available under the constraint at least [x] courses from a given course set.

The courses will always be visible to any admin viewing the audit, but students will only see the course reflected after they have taken or registered for the course.

Add hidden course enrollment tags in a course set [Primary or Secondary Constraint]

Similar to the constraint above, this constraint enables you to add course enrollment tags to the audit that are not visible to the student unless the student has taken a course with a matching enrollment tag. This option is available under the constraint at least [x] courses from a given course set.

The courses will always be visible to any admin viewing the audit, but students will only see the course reflected after they have taken or registered for the course.

Hide this constraint from students [Advanced Option]

This option is not available by default - to have this activated for your institution, please talk to your institution's Stellic administrator.

"Hide this constraint from students" allows the constraint to be hidden in the Progress view for students. This may be useful in instances where there are constraints added to the audit that are geared toward admin users and not needed for students.

These constraints will always be visible for admin users that can see the students audit. When a hidden constraint exists, there will be a message indicating there is a hidden constraint, and expanding it will provide details.

Hide this requirement from students [Secondary Constraint]

Similar to the constraints listed above for hiding courses (such as Add specific hidden courses in a course set), this constraint hides the entire requirement from a student unless they have taken any of the courses specified in the requirement.

Once the constraint is added, it adds clarifying text that the requirement is only displayed if a student has taken any of the courses.

When a hidden requirement is in an audit, admins will see a notice (when viewing an individual student's audit that does not have the hidden requirement met) that there may be some additional requirements listed.

Matched courses are only shown in expanded mode [Secondary Constraint]

This constraint will keep matched courses hidden (or unexpanded). You can choose to expand the requirement to view matched courses. Use this constraint if the list of courses for a category is very large. This will not change the audit requirements, but will make the audit easier to read by defaulting to hiding the matched (fulfilled) course. Users will still be able to manually expand the options for the category.

You'll still be able to tell if the category is filled or how many courses are remaining using the icon on the category.

Courses that are only counting toward this requirement are listed below [Secondary Constraint]

This constraint is frequently used for requirements such as "Total Credits" which will show overlapping courses because of liberal double counting. We want to minimize the courses that are shown anywhere else and show the courses that just count here. The duplicate courses will be minimized in a separate category and can be shown once expanded.
