As I'm sure you've encountered over the course of your career in the shipping / packing department, sometimes you run into the following situation.
You've packed your boxes, all-the-while logging any spoilage or damages that have occurred during the production process. Some of these boxes are going to ship out today, or later this week, while the rest of the boxes are going to be housed as floorstock, in order to be pulled at a later date.
In Stokkup, the easiest way to store finished goods as floorstock is to distribute those goods to a location named "floorstock" through the distribution module.
If you've encountered this situation while using Stokkup, you may have noticed one of two things. If you're converting that entire floorstock into a shipment, there isn't really much of an issue, as you can just rename that shipment location from "floorstock" to "location x" so-to-speak.
On the other hand, if you're converting only part of that same floorstock into a shipment, there is a bit of an issue that you may encounter if you don't apply the correct workaround.
In order to pull part of that floorstock and convert it from "floorstock" to "location x", you'll need to re-distribute some of those goods through the distribution module.
In the process of doing so, you are required to completely remove the original "floorstock" shipment, so as to free up those goods for re-distribution.
Unfortunately, once you cancel a shipment location, in this case "floorstock", all of the previously inputted spoilage and damages are wiped clean, since they are entered at the time of packing.
Here's the solution.
If you know you're going to be storing some of your goods as floorstock, then simply follow these easy steps:
1. Pack the goods that are not going to floorstock as you normally would.
2. For the remaining goods (which will now be distributed to "floorstock"), make sure you distribute the spoiled / missing / damaged goods to a new location called "Spoilage" or "Damages".
3. Distribute the remaining non-spoiled garments to the "floorstock" location as you normally would.
4. When you are ready to pull from the floorstock, you can easily re-distribute those goods without losing spoilage quantities.
