Yes, there are limitations to the Storyblocks licenses - while we try to make sure our licenses aren’t restrictive for members, we do have a few limitations.
Reselling: You can’t re-sell or re-license any of our stock files. You also can’t use our content on paid distribution platforms such as private academies or subscription services. This is considered resale and is strictly prohibited.
Stockpiling: You can’t use automation, such as computer scripts, to download or scrape high volumes of stock assets. You also cannot manually download high volumes of stock files if your intent is to stockpile content. While downloading a few dozen files is fine, downloading 500 files without intending to use them anytime soon would qualify as abuse.
Using content for unlawful purposes: You can’t use our stock assets in a way that encourages violence or for unlawful purposes.
Logos / Trademarks: You can’t use our stock assets as logos or trademarks.
AI use: You can use AI to support your selection and creation processes, using stock files (including any caption, keywords, or other metadata information associated with our assets) for machine learning or artificial intelligence purposes (i.e., to train AI systems), or for any technologies designed or intended for the identification of natural persons is not permitted.
Model and property releases
If there’s a recognizable person or property in one of our images or videos, we’ll clearly indicate whether that content has been “Model Released” or “Property Released.” A release means that the model or property owner gave permission for their likeness to be used in commercial projects.
If you don’t see a release indicated, you can probably still use the content, but you need to get written permission from the model or property owner to be fully covered.
Editorial vs commercial use
'Editorial Only' assets are strictly for non-commercial purposes - you may use them in cases where newsworthy or public-interest content is required, ensuring such use aligns with the licensing guidelines. On the other hand, 'Editorial: No' files are cleared for both commercial and editorial use, offering more flexibility for usage in advertisements or promotional material.
