Changing Ownership on a Property

How to change the property owner in Street, including the difference between editing existing ownership and transferring ownership after a sale.

Changing Ownership on a Property

When a property changes hands or an owner's details need updating, Street handles both scenarios from a single Change owner modal - with two clearly separated paths so agents can't accidentally trigger the wrong action.

To get started, head to the property page and click Edit > Change Owner.

From here you will see the two options.

Edit current ownership

The edit ownership option should only be used when the property hasn't been sold but the owner details are incorrect. For example, removing an incorrectly added owner or adding a missing owner on an existing ownership record.

This action is non-destructive: the ownership record stays the same, only the person or company attached to it changes.

Important note - When editing ownership, all history and linked data remain intact and any additional owners added will have access to that shared information.

Property sold – Replace the owner

The replace the owner option should only be used when the property has been sold and there is a legal change of ownership. This option creates a brand new ownership record for the new owner and marks the previous owner as no longer current.

Important note - When replacing an owner, historical data stays linked to the old ownership record so nothing is lost but the new owner does not have access to any historical data, so cannot see previous viewings, offers etc.

When replacing the owner on a property with multiple owners, all current owners are cleared in one step when the replacement is confirmed.

It's important to understand that replacing the owner is not available if the property has an active listing or an active instruction. If there are either, the replace owner option will be blocked and you'll see the warning of why.

These blockers must be resolved first, by archiving the listing and/or revoking the instruction. Both actions can be done from the property page, from Edit at the top right.
