Attention Transactions
At the top of the Reconcile page you'll see a series of tiles showing a breakdown of your transactions by type - Linked Payments, Suggested Matches, Attention, and No Match. Clicking any tile filters the list to show only that transaction type.
Ideally the Attention tile should always show zero. If it doesn't, it means two or more of your matching rules are conflicting with each other, and Street needs you to step in.
What causes an Attention transaction?
An Attention transaction occurs when a single bank transaction matches the conditions of two or more matching rules that each point to a different tenancy. Because Street can't determine which ledger to receipt the money to, it flags the transaction in orange and waits for you to resolve it.
A common example of how this happens: you have one rule that matches on payee name only, and another that matches on payee name and reference. If two tenants happen to share the same name, both rules will trigger for the same transaction and Street won't know which tenancy to link it to. The fix in this case would be to edit the rule that only checks payee name to also include a reference or description condition, making it more specific.
What does an Attention transaction show?
Each Attention transaction displays the details of every conflicting rule, including which tenancy each rule links to and a summary of the conditions that triggered it. This gives you enough context to understand exactly what's causing the conflict without having to navigate away to the Matching Rules page.
How to resolve an Attention transaction
When resolving an attention transaction you have two options.
Option 1 - Edit a rule
The first option is to click the 'Edit Rule' button next to one of the conflicting rules to modify it directly from the Reconcile page. Narrowing or adjusting the conditions so that only one rule matches the transaction will resolve the conflict. Once saved, the transaction will automatically update and show as a correctly linked payment, ready to reconcile.
Option 2 - Link the payment manually
If you need to reconcile the transaction immediately without editing the rules first, you can use the Link Payment option to manually select the correct tenancy. You can choose to link this transaction once only, or set up a new matching rule for future transactions. Bear in mind that the underlying rule conflict will still exist until you edit or delete the relevant rules.
Of the two options, editing the rule is the most effective in the long term. Resolving Attention transactions promptly keeps your reconciliation accurate. As a general rule, the fewer conflicting rules you have, the smoother your daily reconciliation will be.
