Why Challenge 25?
To ensure age-restricted items are delivered safely, and within the law, couriers working with the Stuart platform have to abide by the Challenge 25 policy.
What do I have to do?
When you pick up an order, check with the client or on the receipt to make yourself aware if an age-restricted item is included and take the following steps to ensure that the customer you deliver to is over the legal age:
If they are NOT clearly over 25, you must check their ID. If they can't produce proper ID, you must not complete the delivery. Contact Support for your next steps.
If they are NOT clearly over 25, but they can produce ID, check to make sure it's both valid and acceptable. The picture must match the person, they must be old enough to receive the items and it must be within date. Once you have confirmed all three things, you can complete the delivery.
There is no need to ask to see the ID. Simply complete the delivery as normal. However, if you suspect they have purchased the items for somebody under the legal age, you must also not complete the delivery. This is called a proxy sale, and it's illegal.
Acceptable forms of ID:
- European Union photocard driving license
- Photographic identity card bearing the national Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) hologram
- National identity card issued by a European Union member state (other than the United Kingdom), Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland
⚠️ If a signature is required, sign it yourself with an “X” - do not ask the customer to sign.
Age-restricted items include:
- Tobacco & vape products
- Offensive weapons (includes knives, knife blades, open edged razor blades, axes)
- 18+ video games and DVDs
- Lottery tickets and scratch cards
- Energy drinks
What happens if I don't follow Challenge 25?
It is against the law to sell an age-restricted item to anyone under the legal age. Doing so risks prosecution and a fine starting at £90 for yourself, plus a £20,000 fine for the client you picked up the items from.
You should not deliver the order without contacting Customer Support if the end customer is not of the legal age, or if you were unable to verify their age.
