How to Generate an IronRidge Racking Bill of Materials (BOM)

Updated over 3 weeks ago

For SE-financed solar projects, you can easily create a Bill of Materials (BOM) for racking using IronRidge. The IronRidge BOM Calculator allows you to generate and download a detailed BOM in PDF format directly from your project.

Requirements Before Using IronRidge

To use a panel in IronRidge, it must have a defined weight. Once a panel is used, its attributes (length, width, depth, weight, wattage) become fixed. If you want to reuse the same panel in another project, do not change any of these attributes, as modifications will cause IronRidge to reject the panel.

Before using a panel, ensure all its attributes are correctly added. Once a project is created, the panel attributes cannot be changed; you must create a new project instead.

IronRidge is only available for SE-financed projects.

If a panel is to be used in IronRidge, its attributes must fall within these ranges:

  • Width (mm): 500.0 to 1315.0

  • Length (mm): 1130.0 to 2502.0

  • Thickness (mm): 30.0 to 50.0

  • Weight (kg): 30.0 to 50.0

  • Wattage: 109 to 800

Follow the steps below to complete the process efficiently.

Step 1: Go to the Project tab and select the “BOM Calculator” tab.

Step 2: Choose “IronRidge Racking BOM” from the available options.

Step 3: Click “Create an IronRidge Racking BOM” to begin.

Step 4: In the Project Information section, enter all required project details.

Step 5: Under Environmental Conditions, select either Automatically or Manually to input site-specific data.

Step 6: Open the Building & Roof Information tab and enter relevant details such as roof material, roof attachment, conduit mounts, and other necessary specifications.

Step 7: In the Rail tab, choose the rail type and stock lengths from the dropdown menu, or select Custom Length for special orders.

Step 8: Scroll to the top and click “Save” to store your progress.

Step 9: In the Roof Planes section, review the automatically generated roof planes. Click Preview Panel Design to view the system layout.

Step 10: Configure the design for each roof plane as needed, then click “Save” to update your changes.

Step 11: Edit individual roof sections as necessary, adjusting details such as rail orientation, module orientation, array setup, number of rows and columns, and any restrictions.

Step 12: Click Save again on the right side of the roof planes section to confirm all edits.

Step 13: Scroll to the top and select Bills of Materials to generate your BOM.

Step 14: A new tab will display the complete BOM details. Click Download to export the BOM as a PDF file for your records.
