Extract Annotations from Submittals
What it does
The Extract Annotations feature uses AI to automatically detect and extract markup annotations from a submittal PDF. This identifies handwritten notes, highlights, arrows, stamps, and other markups that reviewers have added to the document.
How to use it
Go to the Submittal Review page and select a submittal.
Click the Markups tab in the right panel.
Click the Re-extract Annotations button.
The system begins analyzing the PDF. A status message shows "Analyzing annotations — this takes 1–2 minutes."
The page polls for results every 8 seconds. When extraction is complete, annotations appear in the list.
Understanding annotations
Each extracted annotation shows:
Type — Text Note, Highlight, Arrow/Drawing, Pen, or Comment.
Severity — color-coded:
Red — action required (critical markups).
Amber — warning or note.
Blue — informational.
Page number — which page of the PDF the annotation is on.
Content — the text or description of the annotation.
A PDF badge indicates the annotation was auto-extracted from the document (versus manually added).
