Subscription plan groups configure the subscription options that customers will see in your store. You'll use subscription plan groups to set recurrence schedules, anchor subscription orders to specific days, apply customer and order tags, and more.

Adding Your First Subscription Plan Group

Creating and updating subscription plan groups takes just a few minutes directly from the SubZero Subscriptions App.

Step 1: Access Subscription Plans

  1. Open SubZero Subscriptions App from the Apps section of your Shopify store

  2. Click the "Subscription Plans" tab

  3. Click "Create new" to get started

Types of Subscription Plans

SubZero Subscriptions App supports several different types of subscription plans, all configured entirely within the app:

Subscribe and Save Plans

Create new orders on fixed, recurring intervals like weekly or monthly. Customers are charged with each order instance.

Prepaid Plans

Let customers pay for several shipments up-front and receive them on a recurring schedule. For example, a customer may be billed every 3 months for monthly shipments. Customers are billed every 3 months and a single Shopify order is created with 3 fulfillment orders attached.

Auto-Cancelling Plans

Set plans to cancel after a specific number of payments, enabling scenarios like rent-to-own arrangements.

Specific Order Dates

Configure delivery and billing anchors to ensure subscription billing happens on specific dates, including:

  • Specific weekdays

  • Day of the month

  • Specific calendar dates

Creating a Subscribe and Save Plan

Step 1: Configure Basic Plan Details

After clicking "Create new", start by setting up the basic plan information:

  • Plan Name: This may be displayed to customers for plan selection (depending on your widget choice)

  • Merchant Code: Internal reference code for your use

Note: The "Name" field may be used to let customers choose between this plan group and other available options on the product, as well as the one-time purchase option.

Step 2: Customer and Order Tagging (Optional)

The subscription group tag setup section can be left blank initially.

Step 3: Configure Plan Options

Add a plan with specific delivery and billing options, plus subscriber discounts:

Example Configuration:

  • Delivery Frequency: Monthly

  • Discount: 10% (percentage discounts automatically calculate against product variant prices and support multi-currency)

  • Plan Type: "Pay as you go" (one-to-one order to customer charge ratio)

With this setup, subscribers are charged each month and a Shopify order with a single fulfillment order is created.

Step 4: Set Billing Anchors (Optional)

Default Behavior: Orders are accepted on any day with no anchors set.

Anchor Options: Configure recurring orders to bill on specific dates. Anchors affect:

  • Initial order fulfillment timing

  • Recurring order billing schedules

Click "Save" to save your new subscription plan group.

Adding Products to the Plan

Once your subscription plan group is created, you need to associate it with products:

Step 1: Select Your Product

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Products

  2. Choose a product that should offer your subscription option

Step 2: Add Purchase Option

  1. Scroll down to the Purchase options card

  2. Use the "Add purchase option" menu

  3. Select the subscription plan group you just created

Step 3: Configure Display Options

Subscription-Only Products: If you want to offer only subscriptions and hide the one-time purchase option, check the box: "Only show this product with these purchase options"

Verification

After setup, you should see one or more subscription plan groups associated with your product in the Purchase options section.
