Why was I charged after cancelling?

Understanding why a charge may appear after cancelling your Summary AI subscription.

Updated this week

If you see a charge after cancelling, don't worry — this is almost always expected behaviour. Here's why it happens.

How subscription billing works

Summary AI subscriptions are billed in advance. When you subscribe, you pay for the upcoming billing period (weekly or yearly). When you cancel, your subscription stays active until the end of that period — you've already paid for it.

Example: You subscribe on April 1st (weekly). You cancel on April 4th. You'll keep access until April 8th, and no new charge will occur after that.

Common reasons a charge appears after cancelling

  • The charge was already in progress. If a billing cycle started just before you cancelled, that charge cannot be reversed by cancelling. The cancellation only stops future charges.

  • The cancellation wasn't processed in time. App Store and Google Play can take a few hours to register a cancellation. If the renewal happened in that window, it may go through.

  • You cancelled but didn't cancel the right account. Make sure you cancelled on the same Apple ID or Google Account you used to subscribe. Check: iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or Google Play → Payments & subscriptions.

  • The free trial converted to a paid plan. If you signed up for a free trial and didn't cancel before it ended, it converts to a paid subscription automatically — this is standard App Store / Google Play behaviour.

How to confirm your cancellation is active

On iPhone/iPad: Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → find Summary AI. It should show "Expires [date]" rather than a next renewal date.

On Android: Google Play → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Summary AI. It should show the expiry date.

Want a refund?

If you believe you were charged in error, you can request a refund directly through Apple or Google Play. See our article: How to Request a Refund.
