Email Campaign Delivery Statistic Definitions

Successful Delivery

This metric reflects the number of emails that were successfully delivered to recipients as confirmed by the SMTP server. A high delivery rate ensures your emails are reaching inboxes rather than bouncing or being blocked.

Opened

The total number of times your emails were opened by recipients. This provides a key indicator of how engaging your subject lines and timing are, as it tracks initial recipient interest.

Clicked

The number of recipients who clicked on a link in your email. For accurate tracking, ensure your CNAME record is correctly pointed to mailgun.org. Click tracking helps gauge the effectiveness of your email content and call-to-action.

Soft Bounces

Emails that couldn’t be delivered due to temporary issues, such as the recipient’s server being unavailable or their inbox being full. Monitoring soft bounces can help identify recurring issues and improve future deliverability.

Hard Bounces

Emails that failed delivery permanently due to invalid, nonexistent, or blocked email addresses. Keeping your contact list updated and verified can help reduce hard bounces and maintain a good sender reputation.

Unsubscribed

The number of recipients who opted out of your emails by clicking the unsubscribe link typically found in the email footer. Once a contact unsubscribes, emails cannot be sent to them unless a special request is made with justifiable reasons. Respecting these preferences builds trust and compliance with email regulations.

Failed

Failed deliveries occur when invalid API keys are used, recipient email addresses are malformed, or the email provider reports the address as invalid. To avoid failures, ensure correct API key configurations and regularly clean your email lists.

Spam Reports

The number of recipients who marked your email as spam. High spam complaints can damage your sender reputation and affect future deliverability. Focus on sending relevant, permission-based emails to avoid being flagged.

By leveraging the comprehensive insights provided by the Statistics feature, you can refine your email marketing strategies, enhance engagement, and ultimately drive greater success in your campaigns.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Enabling Statistics: Ensure that the Statistics feature is enabled in Beta under the settings if you are unable to access the Statistics option.

  • Accessing Accurate Metrics: Double-check that you have selected the correct date range and metric in the Performance Analysis section to ensure accurate data analysis.

  • Interpreting Engagement Metrics: If engagement metrics seem inconsistent, review the unique clicks and opens to ensure that repeated interactions by the same contact are not skewing the data.

  • Analyzing Recent Emails: Regularly review the Recent Email Analysis section to stay updated on the performance of your latest campaigns and make timely adjustments.
