How to connect Survio to Codex

Connect Survio to Codex: the CLI, the Codex app or the IDE extension. Three ways to set it up, and how to sign in with Survio.

Written by Success Team Survio

Codex is OpenAI's coding agent, in three forms - the command-line tool, the Codex app and the IDE extension. They share one MCP configuration, so connect Survio once and it works in all three.

Before you start

  • Codex installed and signed in - the CLI, the Codex app, or the IDE extension

  • A recent version. Run codex --version and update if you're behind; support for remote HTTP servers arrived along the way.

  • A Survio account on PRO Business or higher

Find the steps in Survio

Open any survey and go to Get responses. In the left panel, under Automations & Integrations, click MCP. Under Connect tools, select Codex - Survio shows the connection steps and the server address with a Copy button.

Survio MCP page with the Codex tab selected under Connect tools

Method 1 - Two commands

Step 1 - Register the server

codex mcp add survio --url https://ai.survio.com/mcp

Step 2 - Sign in

codex mcp login survio

Sign in with your Survio account in the browser, then return to the terminal.

Step 3 - Try it

List my Survio surveys.

Method 2 - The Codex app

Step 1 - Open MCP settings

In the Codex app settings, open Plugins, click Add and choose Add MCP server.

Step 2 - Enter the server details

  • Name: survio

  • Type: Streamable HTTP

  • URL: https://ai.survio.com/mcp

Leave the other fields empty, click Save, then restart the app.

Step 3 - Sign in

Sign in with your Survio account when prompted.

Method 3 - The config file

The route with the most control. What you change here applies to the CLI, the desktop app and the IDE extension alike.

Step 1 - Open the config file

Scope

File

Your whole machine

~/.codex/config.toml

A single project

.codex/config.toml in the project folder

On Windows: %USERPROFILE%\.codex\config.toml. Create it if it doesn't exist.

Step 2 - Add the Survio server

[mcp_servers.survio]
url = "https://ai.survio.com/mcp"

The part after the dot - survio - is the name you'll use in commands, so keep it lowercase and without spaces.

⚠️ TOML is not JSON. An mcpServers JSON block pasted into config.toml stops Codex starting. Use the block above as it is.

Step 3 - Sign in

codex mcp login survio

The authorization is stored on your machine, so config.toml holds only the server address.

Step 4 - Check it worked

codex mcp list

Survio should be in the list.

Removing the connection from Codex

codex mcp remove survio

Or delete the [mcp_servers.survio] block from config.toml.
