Preparing Containers:
Thoroughly clean containers with dishwashing soap and water.
Rinse containers thoroughly to remove any soap residue.
Sanitize containers by mixing a quarter cup of bleach with one cup of water. Ensure the sanitizing solution reaches all surfaces.
Rinse containers with clean water to remove any remaining bleach solution.
Filling Water Containers:
Fill containers to the top with regular tap water. If your tap water is chlorinated, no additional treatment is necessary.
For non-chlorinated water sources (e.g., well water), add two drops of unscented liquid household chlorine bleach per gallon of water.
Seal containers tightly using the original cap, avoiding contamination by touching the interior.
Label containers with the filling date for reference.
Store containers in a cool, dark place to maintain water quality.
Maintenance:
Replace stored water every six months if not using commercially bottled water or a water preserver.
