Annotating Markups in a PDF File

Annotate markups in a PDF file using the Xpedition Viewer application.

Role: Administrator, Editor, and Viewer.

You can open and view a PDF file in a project's collaboration workspace in the Xpedition Viewer application. Use tools in the interface to optionally highlight text, annotate markups, and add comments associated with each highlighted item or markup. The markups you associate with the PDF file are available for viewing by other collaboration team members.

Prerequisites

  • You have a valid Xpedition Viewer subscription and/or have been granted access to the project's workspace.

  • You selected a project name in the Xpedition Viewer application or have a UNC path to the PDF file from the administrator.

  • The project contains one or more PDF files for review.

Procedure

  1. Browse for and select a PDF filename and then click Display PDF.

    Tip: You can also click (in Table View mode) or double-click (in Tile View mode) a PDF filename.

  2. Perform any of the following operations in the PDF viewer.

Highlight items in the schematic and add comments.

  1. Click Markup Menu

    and then click Highlight Text.

  2. Place the cursor in an area of the schematic page and then click to select and highlight an element.

  3. When the Add Markup pane displays, type a comment in the Description field, and then click Add.

    The Markup pane displays the comment text, the author, and the date and time the comment was submitted. The software saves the markups in the PDF file.

    Note: Reviewers can edit previously submitted comments or delete comments from the Markup pane.

  4. Repeat these steps to add more highlighted comments.

Draw freehand markups and add comments.

  1. Click Markup Menu

    and then click Freehand.

  2. Place the cursor in an area of the schematic, click and hold the left mouse button, and then move the mouse to draw a freehand line.

  3. Release the mouse button and choose one of the following:

    • Click Done

      to display the Add Markup pane, then type a comment in the description field, and click Add to save the markup in the PDF file.

    • Click Delete

      to remove the freehand line from the PDF file and return to the freehand markup mode.

    • Click Undo

      to restore a freehand annotation to the previous state.

    • Click Redo

      to switch to the unrestored state.

  4. Repeat as necessary to add more freehand comments to the PDF file.

View previously annotated markups.

Click Markup Menu.

Previously saved annotations to the PDF display in the viewer.

Edit markup text.

Select the annotation box in the Markup pane and click Edit Markup.

Delete previously annotated markups.

Select the annotation box in the Markup pane, click Delete Markup.

Then click Delete to remove the selected markup from the PDF.

Download the PDF file (including markups) to your local machine.

Click Download.

The software saves a copy of the PDF file in your default downloads directory.

Adjusting the PDF Viewer

Rotate the page display 90 degrees counterclockwise.

Click Rotate Left.

Rotate the page display 90 degrees clockwise.

Click Rotate Right.

Change the page magnification by preset levels.

Click Zoom In or

Click Zoom Out.

Resize the page to fit the width of the window.

Click Fit Width.

Resize the page to fit the height of the window.

Click Fit Height.

View thumbnails in the left navigation pane.

Click Show Thumbnails.

When you complete your markups and close the PDF viewer interface, click Close.

Results

The markups you entered are saved to the PDF file and available for viewing by other collaboration team members.
