Roles define the default set of permissions a user receives when accessing project data in a collaboration workspace facilitated by the Xpedition Viewer application. Some roles require the correct subscription to access and manage project data; however, project users with a Guest Viewer role have limited access to project data without the need of a subscription.

Note: Only users with an Administrator role can change a role assignment in the Xpedition Viewer application.

User Roles in the Xpedition Viewer Application

Role

Entitlement
Required?

Description

Admin (or "Administrator")

Yes

Manages user accounts facilitated by the Xpedition Viewer application with full read/write access and privileges to project data in the workspace.

Note: A collaboration workspace can have more than one administrator. Each project must have at least one user with an Administrator role.

An Administrator can:

  • Perform the functions of the Editor and Viewer roles (see the next rows).

  • Add, modify, and remove user access (including Guest Viewer role access if you have a Standard tier subscription) to project data stored in collaboration workspaces hosted by the Xpedition Viewer application.

  • Assign one or more roles to a user account and change the role assignment of a user with an Editor or Viewer role.

Note: Users with an Administrator role cannot change to a different role assignment.

Editor

Yes

Creates and maintains project data in a pre-defined collaboration workspace.

When creating a project, the project owner inherits the Editor role and receives project administration capabilities.

An Editor can:

  • Perform all functions of the Viewer role.

  • Create a project, edit a project name, and delete a project.

  • Invite other users to access (or view) the project only if you created the project (see BBB ADD LINK) Adding a User to a Project and Assigning a Role).

  • Create, modify, or delete folders (Files page).

  • Upload and download files, edit or delete existing files (see BBB ADD LINK) File Management).

  • View project data, such as schematics and layout designs, generated by other subscribers in a read-only viewer without modifying the source design data associated with the project.

Viewer

Yes (see Note)

Accesses and views shared project data in a collaboration workspace from a read-only viewer or browser. In the Viewer role, a user cannot create a project, edit a project name, or delete a project.

A Viewer can:

  • Open any version of a shared project and view the associated schematic in a PDF viewer and the layout design in a 2D viewer.

  • Compare project versions and view comments.

Note: The Viewer role does not require a schematic design or layout tool license. An entitlement is required.

Guest Viewer

(Requires an Xpedition Viewer Standard tier subscription).

No

Views and marks up project design data in a viewer, which facilitates design reviews with the collaboration team.

Note: The Guest Viewer role does not require an Xpedition Viewer entitlement, a schematic design license, or a layout tool license. If you have an entitlement and/or point tool licenses, the Guest Viewer role is available.

A Guest Viewer can perform the following:

  • View supporting files.

  • View 2D schematic and layout files.

  • View a 2D PDF file.

  • View the collaboration team members associated with the project.
