Summary
Starting with 2504 Update 3, the way you share designs in Xpedition Standard has been streamlined. The old check-in/check-out workflow is replaced with a simple Remote Collaboration export that still maintains version history in Connect but allows teams to work more flexibly without enforced locks. This update keeps collaboration easy today while paving the way for a more powerful, unified data-management experience that will be coming in 2026.
What Changed
Starting with 2504 Update 3 to Xpedition Standard (released 3-October-2025), the way you share and version designs through the Connect app has changed.
The previous “check-in / check-out” workflow inside the desktop tools has been removed. That workflow included design locking: when one user checked out a design, other users could not edit th
at version until it was checked back in.
Instead, from the desktop client, you now use File → Export Other → Remote Collaboration to publish your design to Connect.
From there, you invite collaborators using the Connect web application (same as before).
When a teammate downloads the design, makes updates, and exports it back using Remote Collaboration, Connect creates a new version of that shared design.
What stays the same
The Connect web application experience for inviting collaborators and accessing shared designs is unchanged.
Version history still exists. Each new Remote Collaboration export to the same project becomes its next version in Connect.
You can continue using Connect to distribute design data to teammates.
What’s different for team editing
Connect no longer prevents two people from editing at the same time.
Instead of enforced locking, team members coordinate handoff:
Engineer A exports the project to Connect.
Engineer B downloads from Connect, edits locally, and then exports back to Remote Collaboration to publish the new revision.
Connect tracks each revision as a version of that project.
How to work with existing managed projects
Older projects that were managed using check-in / check-out will not automatically appear in the new Remote Collaboration dialog.
If you need to continue work on one of those designs in the new model:
Download it from the Connect web app.
Open it locally, for example, in Xpedition Designer
Use File → Export Other → Remote Collaboration to publish it again so that it’s now tracked under the new model.
Why we’re doing this
We’re preparing for the next phase of data management across our PCB design flow. We’re building a more complete solution that will let you:
manage both design data and library data together,
control access and share securely,
review manufacturing outputs,
and browse everything in a single, modern application experience.
That next-generation scalable data management service is under active development. Moving to the Remote Collaboration model now allows us to deliver that richer, centralized environment.
Your options
If your current program depends on enforced design locking and serialized check-in / check-out, you may remain on 2504 Update 2 for that specific workflow.
If you have upgraded to Xpedition Standard Update 3 or 2510 (released 27-Oct-2025), please transition to the Remote Collaboration export workflow described above.
If you started with Xpedition Standard Update 3 or 2510, this communication does not apply.
What you should do now
For active multi-designer projects: align on a simple “who edits when” handshake.
For legacy managed projects: re-publish them using File → Export Other → Remote Collaboration so they’re tracked going forward.

This update ensures Connect remains a reliable way to share and version your designs while setting the foundation for a more connected, intelligent data-management experience. We appreciate your partnership as we continue evolving Xpedition Standard to make collaboration faster, simpler, and more powerful.
