Replace Part Using PartQuest Portal

This lesson will show you how easy it is to find design content using PartQuest Portal's rich database of over 1 billion parts.

  1. Following the steps from Lesson 1, open Designer and check out the LED Flasher project from Connect. You've realized that R7 (Yageo AC0603JR-0710KL) is not available so yo're going to replace it with a new part using PartQuest Portal.

  2. Open the Search panel by selecting the search icon from the main toolbar (or press Ctrl+F).

  3. Select the PartQuest icon in the top toolbar of the search panel. The PartQuest Portal web application will launch in a new browser tab (you may need to log in first). In the Select Tool window, select the "PADS Professional" and "VX.2.7 or Later" options then select Done.

  4. We'll use a new Panasonic part to replace R7. Copy and paste ERJ-PA3J103V into the PartQuest Portal search box.

  5. Using the first result, left mouse click on the Drag and Drop icon (blue icon with a download arrow) and drag the part into the Designer Search panel. You should see a "Drop Here" message appear in the Search panel. Drop the new part into the Search panel to download the part to your desktop. (you may be prompted to review your parts before drag and drop. Select PartQuest from the Partition drop down.)

  6. Within the search window, click on the Library - Parts tab.

  7. Scroll down until you find the partition called PartQuest. The only entry that should show in this partition is the resistor that was just added to your project library.

  8. Click and drag the new resistor onto the schematic (make sure you select the instance that contains the hash mark in the left column), and continue with replacing R7 (the 10k resistor connected of the DIS pin of the NE555). Notice that the properties that were in PartQuest are on the new part.
