Learn how to upload, configure and manage site and floor plans in Swyvl

Updated over 2 months ago

Introduction

Swyvl allows you to upload site and floor plans to your project, making it easier to organize and visualize spatial data. Whether you're working with a site-wide overview or detailed floor plans of a multi-story building, this guide walks you through the process of adding, configuring, and managing your plans.

Step 1: Select Site or Floor Plan Mode

From the top toolbar, choose whether you want to upload a Site Plan or a Floor Plan. While there is no functional difference between site and floor plans, they are separated in the data sources and project menus for better organization.

Step 2: Upload Your Plan

  • Upload your plan as a PNG file.

  • Choose the appropriate upload location.

  • Tip: If your plan is in PDF format, convert it to PNG before uploading. You can use tools like Adobe Acrobat, online converters, or screenshot the relevant section and save it as a PNG.

Step 3: Configure Your Plan

Once uploaded, configure your plan using the Select Data – Configure screen:

  1. Plan Name: Give your plan a clear and descriptive name (e.g., "Building A, Second Floor").

  2. Drape Over Terrain: Select this option if you want your plan to conform to the terrain. Note: If this is selected, the height setting will be disabled.

  3. Height Above Ground Level: Set the height in meters to position the plan correctly, especially for stacking multiple floor plans in a multi-story building.

Step 4: Place Your Plan on the Map

  • Move, zoom, and adjust the map until the plan is in the correct location.

  • Once satisfied with the placement, click Place Plan to confirm.

  • Note: You can update the plan’s position later if needed.

Step 5: Navigate and Manage Plans

Toggle Between Plans

  • A new map navigation option will appear in the bottom-right map tools, allowing you to quickly switch between different site or floor plans.

  • Use this tool to hide or show plans as needed.

Managing Plans in the Data Sources Panel

  • Your uploaded plan will also appear in the Data Sources panel, separated into site and floor plans for better organization.

  • You can drag data onto a floor or site plan, locking the data to that plan, including height and visibility settings.

Step 6: Adjust Plan Settings

To update your plan, open its settings panel, where you can:

  • Reposition, resize, and reorient the plan.

  • Clamp the plan to the ground (if necessary).

  • Clamp data points to the plan, ensuring consistency in spatial positioning.

With these steps, you can efficiently integrate and manage site and floor plans in Swyvl, improving spatial organization and collaboration within your projects.
