When designing and building your training projects within Synapse, you can leverage a variety of asset types, including video. However, while video remains a popular training option, it's to use best practices to create engaging and effective video training content.

Here are five best practices our clients use when creating their training videos:

Length

When incorporating video into your training projects, it's important to consider length. Research suggests that six minutes is the optimal length for training videos. Engagement levels begin to drop rapidly after that point.

With Synapse, you have the option to include and order as many training assets within a course as required. Consider creating several shorter, digestible videos and include them throughout your lessons.

Segment Content

If you are creating a longer video, consider highlighting important ideas or segments by adding subtitles or sections to the video. Popular video hosting tools like YouTube or Vimeo allow you to bookmark or flag different sections of the video. This makes it easy for learners to navigate and jump to particular portions of the video.

Audio & Visuals

Not all of your learners will learn and process information in the same way. While some may learn best through audio, others prefer graphics, text, and visual representations of the material.

With video, you can easily incorporate all of these strategies to play to all learners' strengths. Consider adding supporting text, titles, and illustrations in addition to the live video and audio.

Design Matters!

Like all aspects of the training development process, the design of your video should not be forgotten. Before you start creating the video, it's essential to storyboard and map out the flow, plan the content and script, and consider the purpose and goal of the video.

Additional Resources

In addition to creating a video, consider what other materials you should provide to your learners. When leveraging a platform like Synapse, you can include a variety of assets and links that all work to reinforce the learning objective of your course.
