Location records represent any location you might want to reference throughout Tailwind – pick up and delivery locations, a Customer’s warehouse, cross-docking and storage facilities, etc. Tailwind will create many of these locations automatically as part of other tasks, but sometimes a Location will be missing, and you will want to create it yourself. While these additional Location records can be created when you are first setting up your database, you will also be able to create new Location records on the fly when entering and dispatching orders.

Creating a Location Record

To create a new Location record, navigate to the Locations list using the left navigation bar. Once there, click on the Create button above the list of records.

This will bring up an empty Location record. Next, begin filling out the fields, being as detailed as possible. Fields marked with a red asterisk are mandatory.

Internal Name

The ‘Internal Name’ field is the name that will display when this Location appears on lists throughout Tailwind. Make sure that the Location has a recognizable name and one that will distinguish it from any similar locations.

Border Crossings

You may also want to create a Location for a Border Crossing. Select both the 'United States Border Crossing Port' and 'Canadian Border Crossing Port' fields under the Location tab.

Border crossing locations can be helpful for route planning, dealing with Customs Brokers, or moving a shipment through customs yourself using ACE or ACI.

Once you have filled out all the necessary information, click on the ‘Create’ button to create the Location. This will also return you to the Locations list – with your new location included.
