HRA Hub: How to access healthcare and prescriptions without your insurance ID card

This article is for employees enrolled in health insurance through Take Command Health’s HRA Hub (ICHRA or QSEHRA) who have not yet received their insurance ID card or cannot access it.

You can still access healthcare and fill prescriptions without your insurance ID card by using your member ID, coverage details, or your insurance provider’s online portal or customer service line.

Can you use your insurance without an ID card?

Yes — your insurance is active even without the card.

Your insurance ID card is only a reference tool. You can still use your coverage as long as:

  • Your plan is active

  • You know your member ID (or can obtain it)

  • Your provider can verify your coverage

Providers and pharmacies can usually look up your insurance directly.

How to fill prescriptions without your insurance card

Pharmacies can verify your coverage without a card

To fill a prescription, you can:

  1. Go to the pharmacy

  2. Provide your:

    • Full name

    • Date of birth

    • Insurance company name (if known)

    • Member ID (if available)

  3. Ask the pharmacist to look up your coverage electronically

If needed, the pharmacy can:

  • Contact your insurance carrier directly

  • Submit a claim after verification

  • Process the prescription using temporary eligibility information

How to see a doctor without your insurance card

Providers can verify your coverage without physical ID.

Before or during your visit:

  1. Tell the provider your insurance is active but you do not have your card

  2. Provide:

    • Name

    • Date of birth

    • Insurance carrier (if known)

    • Coverage start date (if available)

  3. Ask the office to verify eligibility with the insurance carrier

Most provider systems can confirm coverage in real time.

How to find your insurance information without a card

Option 1: Use your insurance carrier’s online portal

  1. Log in to your insurance carrier website or app

  2. Navigate to “ID Card” or “Member ID” section

  3. Download or view a temporary digital ID card

  4. Save or print it for immediate use


Option 2: Call your insurance carrier

  1. Call the customer service number for your insurance company

  2. Verify your identity (name, DOB, address, etc.)

  3. Request:

    • Member ID

    • Group number (if applicable)

    • Temporary ID card

  4. Ask them to email or provide digital access if available


Option 3: Use provider lookup at point of care

If you have no ID card or portal access:

  1. Go to your provider or pharmacy

  2. Provide personal details

  3. Allow them to verify coverage directly with the carrier

  4. Complete the visit or prescription as normal

What to do if you already paid out-of-pocket

If you paid without insurance information:

  1. Save all receipts

  2. Obtain your insurance member ID once available

  3. Submit a reimbursement claim through your insurance carrier or HRA process

  4. Confirm eligibility for retroactive claims
