Renewing Your HRA Plan
Each year, you'll need to renew your HRA plan for the upcoming plan year. Renewal lets you review your current plan, decide whether to keep it as-is or make changes, and confirm your final design before the new plan year begins. Most employers complete renewal in just a few minutes.
Getting Started
Step 1: Open the renewal banner
When renewal becomes available, you'll see a renewal banner on your dashboard. Select the HRA Renewal banner to begin.
Step 2: Confirm your employer type
You'll be asked whether your company is an Applicable Large Employer (ALE).
If your company is not an ALE, select No, I am not an ALE. You'll continue to the Non-ALE renewal experience.
If your company has recently grown and now qualifies as an ALE, select Yes, I am an ALE. Our team will review your account and contact you if additional information is needed.
Understanding Eligibility Classes
An eligibility class is a group of employees who receive the same HRA allowance. For example, you might have separate classes for:
Full-time employees
Part-time employees
Salaried employees
Hourly employees
During renewal, you'll review and update these classes for the upcoming plan year.
Choose Your Renewal Option
You have three options for designing your upcoming HRA plan.
Option 1: Keep Current Allowances
Choose this option if you'd like next year's plan to match your current plan exactly.
You can:
✅ Review your current allowances
✅ Confirm your renewal
You cannot:
❌ Edit allowance amounts
❌ Edit class details
❌ Add classes
❌ Delete classes
Option 2: Adjust by Percentage
Choose this option if you'd like to increase or decrease all allowance amounts by the same percentage.
Examples:
Enter 5% to increase allowances by 5%
Enter -5% to decrease allowances by 5%
As you update the percentage, the allowance table updates automatically.
How percentage adjustments work: Each time you change the percentage, the new amounts are calculated from your original allowances — not from whatever percentage you last entered. So if you change your entry from 2% to 4%, the table recalculates from the original amounts, not from the 2% result. Entering 0% returns the table to your original amounts.
You cannot:
❌ Add new classes
❌ Edit class details
❌ Delete existing classes
Option 3: Manual Edit
Choose this option if you'd like to make direct changes to your upcoming HRA plan.
You can:
✅ Edit allowance amounts
✅ Edit class details
✅ Create new classes
✅ Delete classes created during renewal
Creating a class Select a row, or choose the option to create a new class. Newly created classes are marked so you can easily identify them during review.
Note: Each class must have a unique name — duplicate class names are not allowed.
Deleting a class You can delete classes that were created during the current renewal process. Existing classes from your current plan year cannot be deleted during renewal.
Switching Between Renewal Options
You can switch between renewal options at any time. If you've already made changes, you'll see a warning before switching — switching resets any changes you've made and restores the original plan design for the newly selected option.
Save Your Progress
Your changes are automatically saved when you:
Select Save and Exit
Select Confirm My HRA
Create a new class
Delete a new class
You can safely leave the renewal process at any point and return later to pick up where you left off.
Confirm Your HRA
When you're ready to finalize:
Review your plan design
Select Confirm My HRA
Confirm your renewal
After confirming, you'll be taken to a completion page and your renewal will be finalized.
After Renewal
View your upcoming plan Go to Benefits → Eligibility Classes to review your upcoming HRA plan. You'll also see next-year class information in the People table.
Employee assignments If an eligibility class remains in the upcoming plan year, employees are automatically kept assigned to that class for the next year. New columns showing next-year enrollment and class information will appear once renewal is completed.
Frequently Asked Questions
I accidentally selected ALE — what do I do?
If you selected Yes, I am an ALE but you're actually a Non-ALE, contact our Support team. They'll reach out to the appropriate team to have this corrected.
Can I add a new class during renewal?
Yes, but only if you choose Option 3: Manual Edit. Options 1 (Keep Current Allowances) and 2 (Adjust by Percentage) don't allow you to add classes — they only let you review or adjust your existing ones.
To add a class, select Manual Edit, then select the option to create a new class. Newly created classes are marked so you can easily identify them during review, and each class needs a unique name.
I already started with Option 1 or 2, but now I want to add a class — what do I do?
Switch to Option 3: Manual Edit. You can switch renewal options at any time, but keep in mind: if you've already made changes under your current option, switching resets those changes and restores the original plan design for the newly selected option.
Can I edit my renewal after confirming it?
If you've already confirmed your renewal and need to make changes, contact Take Command Support or your Benefit Partner.
What happens if I don't complete renewal?
If renewal isn't completed before the applicable deadline, your plan, including current classes and allowances, will auto-renew.
I missed the renewal deadline — what now?
