Medicare: Shopping for a plan in HRA Hub

This article is for employees using Take Command who are Medicare-eligible and need to understand how Medicare shopping and enrollment works within the HRA Hub experience.

Written by Jessica T

If you are Medicare-eligible, you will be routed out of HRA Hub to a Medicare partner (Chapter) to select and enroll in a Medicare plan, and then you must return to Take Command to upload proof of coverage in order to activate HRA reimbursements.

What happens if I am Medicare-eligible?

If you indicate that you are Medicare-eligible in HRA Hub:

  • You will not shop for plans directly inside Take Command

  • You will be routed to Take Command’s Medicare partner (Chapter)

  • You will receive guidance to select an appropriate Medicare plan

  • After enrollment, you must return to HRA Hub to upload proof of coverage

Take Command does not complete Medicare enrollment directly.

How does Medicare shopping work in HRA Hub?

The process works in two steps:

1. Medicare plan selection (via Chapter)

  1. Enter your personal and household information in HRA Hub

  2. Confirm Medicare eligibility when prompted

  3. You will be redirected to Chapter

  4. Schedule an appointment or speak with a Medicare advisor

  5. Select a Medicare plan based on your needs and location

  6. Complete enrollment with the Medicare carrier

2. Return to Take Command

After enrolling:

  1. Return to your Take Command HRA Hub account

  2. Navigate to the Proof of Coverage section

  3. Upload documentation showing active Medicare coverage

  4. Wait for verification to activate HRA reimbursement eligibility

What documents count as proof of Medicare coverage?

You can upload any official document that shows active Medicare enrollment, such as:

  • Medicare card (red, white, and blue card)

  • Medicare Advantage plan confirmation letter

  • Medicare Part A and/or Part B award letter

  • Insurance ID card showing Medicare plan enrollment

  • Official enrollment confirmation from CMS or your carrier

Your document must clearly show your name and active coverage.

Can I shop for dependents on Medicare?

No. If you are Medicare-eligible:

  • You cannot enroll dependents through the Take Command shopping flow

  • Each Medicare-eligible individual must obtain their own coverage through Chapter or Medicare channels

  • Each covered individual must upload their own proof of coverage for reimbursement eligibility

Do I still need to upload proof of coverage?

Yes. After enrolling in a Medicare plan:

  • You must upload proof of coverage in HRA Hub

  • This is required before HRA reimbursements can begin

  • Coverage must remain active for continued eligibility

  • Employees may also need to upload premium documentation for reimbursement claims

Can I use Medicare and other insurance at the same time?

It depends on the coverage type:

  • Medicare generally satisfies Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC) requirements for HRA eligibility

  • If you have additional coverage (e.g., supplemental or spouse plan), only qualifying coverage determines HRA eligibility

  • You cannot be reimbursed without active qualifying Medicare coverage

What does NOT happen in this process?

  • Take Command does not enroll you in Medicare plans directly

  • Medicare plans are not selected inside the Take Command shopping interface

  • Proof of coverage is not automatically imported from Medicare

  • You must complete enrollment and upload documentation manually
