Why Is My SSN Needed?
Your Social Security Number (SSN) is required when submitting your carrier application for several important reasons:
Identification
Your SSN is a unique identifier that helps verify your identity accurately. It ensures the carrier can match your application to your personal records.
Regulatory Compliance
Many insurance carriers are legally required to collect SSNs to comply with regulations related to processing and administering insurance applications.
Verification of Eligibility
Your SSN may be used to confirm your eligibility for coverage, including determining qualification for specific plans or benefits.
Billing and Claims Processing
SSNs help ensure accurate billing and efficient claims processing, allowing your insurance benefits to be applied correctly.
Fraud Prevention
Collecting SSNs helps prevent fraud by confirming your identity and detecting inconsistencies or discrepancies in the application.
Note: Insurance carriers have strict privacy and security measures in place to protect your personal information, including your SSN.
SSN Entry Rules
Enter a 9-digit number without dashes for each individual selected for the health plan.
SSNs can start with 0 or 00, but:
Cannot be 000-00-0000
Cannot be a sequence of all identical digits (e.g., all 0s, 1s, or 3s)
SSNs must be unique per person. Duplicate entries will trigger an error message.
The Continue button will remain disabled until all fields, including SSN, are valid.
For privacy, SSNs are hidden by default, but you can toggle visibility as needed.
Ensuring Data Integrity
SSNs are not cached, helping maintain data security.
If a preferred name is available, it will be displayed. Otherwise, the system will show the individual’s full name (First and Last).
With these guidelines, you can confidently provide the necessary SSN information for purchasing your health plan, ensuring data accuracy and security throughout the process.
