HRA Hub: Why Social Security Numbers are required during enrollment

This article is for employees using Take Command’s HRA Hub who are completing health insurance enrollment and need to understand why SSNs are requested and how they are used.

Written by Jessica T

Social Security Numbers (SSNs) are required in HRA Hub during health plan enrollment so insurance carriers can verify identity and process the application for coverage.

Why is my Social Security Number required?

Your SSN is required because insurance carriers use it to:

  • Verify your identity

  • Match your application to your coverage record

  • Process enrollment in your selected health insurance plan

  • Prevent duplicate or inaccurate enrollment records

Without an SSN, most carriers cannot complete your application.

When do I need to provide my SSN?

You will be asked to provide SSNs during the enrollment process when:

  1. You select a health insurance plan in HRA Hub

  2. You proceed to the carrier application step

  3. You complete final enrollment details before purchase

SSNs are required for all individuals being enrolled, including dependents when applicable.

Who must provide an SSN?

You must provide SSNs for:

  • The employee enrolling in coverage

  • Any dependents included on the health insurance plan

Each covered individual must be identified in the carrier application.

How is my SSN used?

Your SSN is used only for enrollment and verification purposes, including:

  • Submitting your application to the insurance carrier

  • Matching your identity to government and carrier records

  • Confirming eligibility for the selected plan

SSNs are not used to determine your HRA allowance or reimbursement eligibility.

What happens if I do not have an SSN for a dependent?

If a dependent does not have an SSN:

  • The carrier may request an alternative identifier (such as a Tax Identification Number, if applicable)

  • You may still be able to complete enrollment depending on carrier rules

  • Additional documentation may be required

Carrier requirements vary and must be followed to complete enrollment.

How is my SSN protected?

Your SSN is handled securely within HRA Hub and is:

  • Transmitted directly to the insurance carrier for enrollment

  • Protected using secure system protocols

  • Not shared publicly or displayed unnecessarily in the platform

Take Command uses SSNs only for required administrative and enrollment functions.
