District admins, School Admins, Teachers and Staff can now message students on the TalkingPoints platform who are 13+ in compliance with COPPA. Please see article here for details on compliance.

*Please note: If a school is set-up individually on a school level, then by default teachers/non-rostered staff will have the ability to manually add additional contacts.

To allow teachers/non-rostered staff to add student contacts to existing students, Districts Admins can follow these steps:

Step 1: Turn on permissions for Teachers to add students manually.

For details on school admin and teacher/non-rostered staff permissions by school, please see this article.

This will allow teachers/non-rostered staff to be able to add new contacts from their Teacher Account by following these steps:

Step 1: Select a class from the side panel. Select a student to view their student details.

Step 2: Click on 'Add another contact'.

Step 3: Enter contact information and select Self (Student) for relationship.

Step 4: Click 'Save' to confirm any changes.

Importance of labeling:

Since all contacts are organized by the student that they are connected to, it may be helpful to label them so that you can differentiate between the student and one of their family members.

Some examples of how to flag your students include naming conventions such as:

  • (Student) Susie Smith

  • S-Susie Smith
