Yes. We support all web-based EHR systems and an ever-growing number of native (desktop) EHRs. Our one-click integrations make setup quick and reliable. If your EHR is not supported, please contact us and we will do our utmost to integrate within 24hrs.
→ Do I need to install any software?
No specific installation is required. You can use Tandem in your preferred web browser or via our native Tandem desktop application, whichever is most convenient for your clinical workflow.
→ Do I need any special hardware (microphones, etc.)?
Not necessarily. Tandem works with your computer’s system microphone out of the box. However, for optimal accuracy, we recommend using our free Tandem external microphone, which we can send you immediately to get you started as soon as possible.
→ What if I make a mistake? Can I edit a note?
Yes. You can edit your notes manually using your keyboard or via Tandem’s Magic Edit feature. With Magic Edit, you simply speak the required changes aloud, and Tandem will update your notes accordingly.
→ Do you have access to my patients’ records?
No. Tandem never reads your EHR or patient records. We have ‘write-only’ access to save the clinical notes you generate into your EHR.
→ How accurate is Tandem’s transcription?
Our current transcription accuracy is very high and continually improving. We use advanced language models that we update regularly to optimise performance.
→ Does Tandem support clinical coding?
Yes. Tandem recognises the diagnoses you mention during your consultation and suggests ICD-10 codes to add to your clinical notes. Please see our website, for the latest on how these codes are transferred to your EHR.
→ Does Tandem support regional accents and various dialects?
Yes. Tandem has been thoroughly tested with a wide range of regional accents, dialects and multiple languages, delivering consistently reliable results.
→ Can Tandem handle conversations with multiple speakers (e.g., patient relatives)?
Yes. Tandem’s transcription supports multiple speakers simultaneously, ensuring every voice is captured accurately.
→ Can I use Tandem on my phone?
Yes. You can access Tandem through our web app on both iOS and Android devices. Tandem will automatically use your device’s internal microphone if you don’t have an external microphone available.
→ Is Tandem a medical device?
No. Tandem is not classified as a medical device. Tandem does not diagnose or offer treatment advice. You maintain full professional control over all clinical decisions and documentation.
→ Which large language model do you use?
Tandem is powered by a transcription and a large language model. For transcription, we currently utilize a fine-tuned version of the leading open source model Whisper, which has been trained for improve performance in medical contexts. For large language model, which is used for document generation, we constantly evaluate the latest models and are currently primarily using GPT-4o. All is hosted on a secure Microsoft Azure server in Europe. We encrypt all data in transit, do not store any audio from your consultations, and never use your data for training AI models.
→ Is my data used for training AI models?
No, we never use your data for training AI models.
→ Are audio recordings stored from the consultations?
No, the audio is transcribed in real-time during the consultation and is thereafter permanently deleted.
→ Can I use Tandem for virtual consultations (e.g., MS Teams, Accurx, eConsult)?
Yes. Tandem integrates seamlessly with virtual consultations. Whether you use your system audio or a Tandem microphone, you can capture and transcribe conversations without difficulty.
→ Who is legally responsible for the clinical documentation?
Ultimately, you are responsible for verifying the accuracy of your notes. Like any transcription method—human or AI—errors can sometimes occur. We encourage clinicians to review Tandem’s note draft before finalising it in the EHR.
→ Do you support acronyms and medical terminology?
Yes. Tandem’s comprehensive library of medical terms, acronyms and specialist phrases ensures high accuracy and minimal editing.
→ Where is the data stored and processed?
All transcripts and clinical notes are stored on a Microsoft Azure database located in Europe. We never retain or store any audio recordings from your consultations.
→ Do I need to ask for consent from my patients?
We recommend you let your patients know you are using a tool to support you with documentation and enable you to focus fully on the consultation. We also offer information sheets you can place in your waiting room.
