Getting Started
Start a round
Open the Tangent app and tap Golf.
Select your golf course and begin the round.
The app will start tracking automatically, using your phone’s sensors to estimate where shots are hit.
For best results, keep your phone in your pocket. If you leave it in a cart or bag, the app may miss some movements, and you’ll need to adjust shots later.
Let the app run in the background
Play normally. The app will track movements and generate predicted shots.
At the end of a hole (or the round), you’ll enter your score, which starts the shot tracking process.
Entering Score and Enabling Shot Tracking
Tap the pencil icon (lower right) to open the score entry screen.
Enter the following:
Score (total strokes)
Putts
Drive Quality
First putt length
Make sure Track Shots is enabled.
If it’s off, the first time you save a score the app will ask if you want to enable shot tracking.
Save your score. You’ll be taken directly into the shot tracking walkthrough.
Tracking Each Shot
Tee shot
The app will place your first shot automatically at the tee box you selected.
If it’s correct, tap the green check mark to move to shot two.
If it needs adjustment, long press and drag the shot marker to the correct location.
You can optionally tap the shot and select which club you hit (recommended for better Smart Caddy suggestions later).
Subsequent shots
For each shot, confirm the location with the green check mark, or adjust if needed:
Quick move: Tap a nearby plus marker to relocate the shot instantly.
Manual move: Long press until you feel a vibration, then drag the marker to the correct spot.
Use the Distance to Target (top right of the screen) to set the shot accurately (for example, drag to 110 yards if that’s where you hit from).
Add club information if desired, then hit the green check mark.
On the green
If you don’t want to track putts in detail, simply tap the green check mark until the hole is complete.
For more accurate putting and approach data:
Complete the hole
Continue until all shots are entered.
The process typically takes 10–15 seconds per hole.
