Golf is 80% mental... or is it 90%? It's definitely mental, but how do you measure that?

Commitment. If you've followed golf as much as I have, you've probably heard of the concept of a mental scorecard popularized by Dr. Lardon. PAR Golf allows you to easily track your mental scorecard as you play from your phone or watch to unlock key insights about your commitment and focus over shots.

First, if you've disabled Mental Scorecard in Preferences, you'll need to enable it. Once enabled, you'll be prompted for a Mental Score after every swing if using a watch.

On the phone, you can edit it by simply tapping on a shot to add a mental score as detailed here.

The mental scorecard is binary. You were either full committed, or you weren't.

You do not have to input a score for every shot if you do not want to. If you want to focus on drives, or full swings, then only track mental scorecard for those shots.

In your round summary and analytics, you will get a snapshot of your mental scorecard.

On the left hand side, you will see the percentage of shots you were committed to out of all the shots you tracked. A good target for this number is 95%.

To the right, you will see the breakout of commitment by type of shot. From left to right the types are Driving, Approach, Short Game, Putting, and Total.

On each bar is the percentage of that type you were committed to. In parentheses is the attempts or shots with mental scorecard tracked.

On top of the bar, is your strokes gained vs a tour pro when committed to the shot (good mental score). On the bottom you'll see your strokes gained vs. a tour pro when uncommitted.

In the above example, I lost a full half a shot for every uncommitted drive. Thats a ton!

Time to work on my mental game.
