Improve the accuracy of your email campaign reports by enabling BayEngage's bot click exclusion feature. This setting filters out automated clicks generated by corporate email security systems, giving you a truer measure of genuine customer engagement. This article explains how these bot clicks occur and how to activate our filtering system.
Understanding bot clicks and how they happen
When you send an email campaign through BayEngage, each link is converted into a unique click-tracking link. This is how we measure who clicks on your content.
However, a common issue arises when sending emails to business or corporate email addresses. These organizations often use powerful security services, such as Barracuda, Microsoft Office 365, or other enterprise-level firewalls.
To protect their network, these security systems automatically "visit" or "scan" every link in an incoming email to check for malware or phishing threats. A single security service might scan a link multiple times, which triggers these "fake clicks" or bot requests.
The Problem: These automated clicks are not from interested customers. If they are counted, they will artificially inflate your campaign statistics, like your Click-Through Rate (CTR), giving you an inaccurate picture of your campaign's performance.
How BayEngage filters bot clicks: IP blacklisting
To combat this problem and provide you with accurate data, BayEngage has implemented a robust filtering system. Here’s how it works:
We Identify and Blacklist Bot IPs: We have identified and maintain a constantly updated blacklist of IP addresses belonging to known email security bots and data centers.
We Ignore Bot Clicks: When a click originates from one of these blacklisted IPs, our system automatically recognizes it as a bot and ignores that click. It is not counted in your campaign statistics within BayEngage.
This ensures that the data you see reflects real human activity as accurately as possible.
How to enable bot click exclusion
For our filtering system to be active on your account, you must enable the setting. For the most accurate reporting, we highly recommend turning this feature on.
Follow these steps to enable bot click exclusion:
Navigate to your BayEngage account Settings.
Look for the Campaign Settings section.
Find the option labeled "Exclude bot interactions from Clicked Email" and ensure the checkbox is ticked.
The benefit: Accurate campaign reporting
Once this setting is enabled, the click data you see in your BayEngage dashboard will be a much truer reflection of genuine customer engagement.
Your total click counts will no longer be inflated by automated security scans.
You can make better, more informed decisions about your email marketing strategy, knowing that the data is based on how your human subscribers are actually interacting with your campaigns.
By enabling this simple setting, you can trust that your BayEngage reports are providing clean, reliable data to help you optimize your campaigns and understand your audience better.
