What is a DNS record?

DNS (Domain Name System) records are a set of instructions that live in authoritative DNS servers. These records provide information about a domain including what IP address is associated with that domain and how to handle requests for that domain. The most common types of DNS records are CNAME, TXT, A, DKIM, DMARC, SPF, and MX.

Importance of adding DNS records in your email deliverability:

DNS records not only authenticate your sending IPs but also increase safety and security by protecting against spam and phishing attacks. These records ensure that your emails reach your recipient's inboxes.

Email Providers like Google and Yahoo are rolling out various regulations to protect their users from spam and phishing. These providers are emphasizing the importance of DNS recording while sending emails in bulk.

Here are the steps to add DNS record in Cloudflare:

Step 1: Visit the Cloudflare website (https://www.cloudflare.com/), click on "Log in" and enter the correct credentials.

Step 2: On the dashboard, choose the domain for which you want to include the DNS record.

Step 3: Under the DNS menu, choose the option “Records.”

Step 4: Click on the option “Add record” and choose the type of the record from the drop-down and add it. Once you have added the record, click on the option “Save.”

Note💡:

You have to deactivate or activate the Cloudflare service for each record under the Proxy status column.

Step 5: To edit an existing record, click on the “Edit” icon at the end of each record. Once you have updated the record, click on the option “Save”

Note💡:

The DNS record may take up to 48 hours to get updated.
