What car is the most suitable for your trip?
You should match your choice of rental to your travel plans. For business travelers navigating the city, a compact car is an efficient choice. Heading off-road with family or friends? An SUV offers the comfort and durability you need.
Planning to explore coastal cities or the Cape Winelands? A convertible adds a touch of luxury and enhances the scenic experience.
If your plans are a mix of everything, an SUV with a spacious sunroof provides versatility with an elevated travel experience.
Does Tarlen offer chauffeur services?
Tarlen unfortunately does not offer chauffeur services. We only provide self-drive rentals.
Get your vehicle delivered to the airport or hotel
Indulge yourself in the convenience of having your rental delivered right to your doorstep, the hotel, or airport. Say goodbye to the hassle of dragging your heavy luggage or waiting in long rental queues at the airport.
To enjoy this service, book with a Host that offers delivery and arrange your delivery location after booking. A small fee, set by the Host, will be charged.
Message your host
Tarlen makes communication with your Host easy with a dedicated messaging portal that becomes available after you’ve booked your trip.
Once you receive your booking confirmation, simply open your trip, tap on “Messages”, and start chatting with your Host. It’s that simple to stay in the loop and arrange pickup or delivery details.
Extras to enhance your trip
While extras are not required to rent a car on Tarlen, they can make your travel experience better.
Not all Hosts offer extras, but if they do, you’ll find them listed on the vehicle details page. From child seats and GPS to beach gear and coolers, make your trip more enjoyable with these additions!
How reliable are Hosts on Tarlen?
Tarlen was created to provide the modern travel with a more personalised and convenient way of renting cars. We have a strict vetting criteria for cars on the platform, we let other Guests like you leave public reviews after every trip, providing transparency and trust, and we monitor and incentivise our Hosts to provide the best service possible to you.
What distance can I drive with my rental?
With Tarlen, you can drive as far as you need, but keep in mind that unless you have unlimited mileage, there’s a limit to how far you can drive without incurring extra costs. This distance is indicated as your trip mileage or "Included Mileage".
To calculate your Included Mileage, simply multiply the daily mileage, by the number of days you’re booking the car. For example, if your Host offers 200 km/day and an extra cost of R6/KM. When you book a trip for 5 days, your Included Mileage would be 1000 km (200 km x 5).
In the same instance, if you drive 1100 km during the trip, you’ll exceed your included mileage by 100 km, and an extra R600 (100 km x R6) will be charged.
Unlimited Mileage: If your Host offers unlimited kilometers, there’s no limit or extra charge!
To see your Included Mileage and any additional charges, simply choose your trip dates and tap “Continue” to reach the checkout page. Your included Mileage and additional charge will be displayed in that page.
How can I get the best deal on my rental?
Renting on Tarlen, you automatically get access to better deals than most rental companies. As a competitive marketplace, our Hosts are motivated to offer the best prices to attract renters like you and give you the best service to get the best review. You can easily filter by price and find the most economical make and model for your needs.
Most Hosts on Tarlen offer great deals for longer bookings. Some offers you'll find on Tarlen includes;
10% off on bookings over 3 days.
20% off on bookings over 7 days
30% off on bookings over 14 days
Tarlen's cancellation policy
As a Guest on Tarlen, you can cancel your trip for free if you do so more than 24 hours before the scheduled start time. An exception to this is when your trip is booked less than 24hrs before the start time, you can cancel for free within one hour of booking and receive a full refund.
Please note: All cancellations are immediate and you will no longer have access to the car.
What happens when you're running late or when you don't show up?
We understand that sometimes situations out of your control can make you late. If that happens, please let your Host know as soon as possible, and be sure to inform us too.
We encourage our Hosts to be flexible and work with you if there’s a valid reason for the delay. You can also discuss alternative pickup arrangements directly with them.
However, if your Host is unable to accommodate the delay, they may mark the trip as a no-show, and we’ll treat it like a cancellation.
