Welcome to Taxbotic! Forget the guesswork and prepare tax documents for your accountant with ease. In this guide, we show you how to get started and what you can do in your Taxbotic account.

1) Accountant invitation to upload documents

Every year you will receive an email invitation from your accountant to upload your tax information to Taxbotic's secure portal. This invitation email will include all the information for you to get started.

In the first year of using Taxbotic, you will receive the following additional information.

  • Unique sign-up code - you will be required to enter this code when signing up on taxbotic. Contact your accountant if you did not receive this code. Do not share this passcode with anyone.

  • Sign-up button - Follow this link to open the sign-up window.

2) Sign-up for Taxbotic

Click on the sign-up link to register. Create your account by using the code received from the accountant. Note that this is only required for the first year you are using Taxbotic.

3) Client dashboard

After you log into your Taxbotic account, you will end up on your dashboard.

4) Fill out personal information

Click on the Get started button to start filling out personal information. You will be required to enter the following information.

  • Personal details

  • Residency information

  • Spousal & family information

  • Other important tax Information

Make sure you answer all questions as your tax questionnaire is based on this information. It is a good idea to check the side tracker for the tick mark to check if all questions have been answered.

5) Discovery & Sources

Once you complete the personal information questions, you will end up on the discovery page. Here Taxbotic will try to understand your financial situation to prepare a custom tax questionnaire for you. So, it is very important that you select what applies to you.

6) Tax Questionnaire

Once you have confirmed your income sources, click on continue to begin answering your tax questionnaire. These questions will be based on your selections in the discovery and sources windows. For example, if you chose employment income and rental income, you will be asked questions about them. If you are not sure about something, you can always refer to the information icon on the right top corner of each question.

You will also be asked to select from a list of deductions that apply to you. Depending upon selections, you will be required to answer some questions about these deductions. This helps your accountant understand more about your finances and ultimately gives them enough information to fill in your tax return.

7) Upload Documents

After you finish responding to the tax questionnaire, Taxbotic will curate a list of documents that your accountant would need from you to prepare your tax return accurately. The document list is set up in the same order as the tax questionnaire i.e., based on the income types.

The following items should be kept in mind when uploading documents

  • All documents are mandatory to be uploaded except if specifically noted as optional.

  • Where there is an option to upload one or the other document, you only need to upload it in one of the boxes. As an example, you could either upload bank statements for your rental property or you can put all details of the rental property in a spreadsheet and upload that.

  • In the case where you cannot upload a requested document, you can click on the "cannot upload" link and choose the reason for not uploading. This will let your accountant know about it.

  • If you wish to add any additional comments to the documents uploaded, you can do so by clicking on the "add comment" button.

8) Submit to the Accountant

Once all the documents are uploaded, the submit to the accountant button becomes active. If you have missed responding to some of the questions or missed uploading some documents, the submit page will show this information. You can go back and complete the missing information. A good check is to see if all tabs of the tax questionnaire and document uploads have blue tickmarks. If everything looks good, click on submit to accountant and we will let your accountant know about it.
