This guide talks about how to add a new client tax return

Adding a client tax return is one of the first things that you will do in your Taxbotic account. Here is how you can do that.

  1. In your accountant or team Taxbotic account, click on the (+) icon from the top right corner. Select "Tax Return" from the dropdown.

  2. In the "New Client Return" pop-up, enter the following details for the client.

    • First Name

    • Last Name

    • Unique Email Address

    • Tax Year

  3. Next, add the family returns if any by clicking on the "+ add family returns" button. All you need is their first and last name. You can add as many family returns as you like for the client. This is useful if one person in the family is the point of contact for all tax returns in the family.

    Note that the family members won't have a separate Taxbotic portal. There will be one portal for all family members. If your clients like to have an independent client portal for each family member, you will need to add their tax return separately.

  4. Assign team members to the client return next by clicking on the "+ add team member" button. You can assign as many team members as you want. Here are some of the things you need to know.

    • As a rule, one team member will always be assigned to a client. By default your main accountant account (one that you sign up with when you start using Taxbotic) will always be assigned to the client returns. You will note that this account is auto-assigned as the checkbox is blurred.

  5. If no team member is added to your Taxbotic account, you will first need to add a team member before assigning the returns to them. If you already have team members added, they will appear in the dropdown.

6. Primary Contact: if you have multiple team members added to a client, you may want to assign a primary contact to them. This will be the team member that will be their primary contact throughout the engagement for the client.

7. Click on the "Create Return" button to add the client returns from the bottom right corner.

Note - Creating a client return doesn't mean that the client has been sent a document request. You will need to invite them later to send them a notification via email notifying them of your request.
