British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba stopped observing Daylight Saving Time (DST). If your business operates in these provinces, or if you have students based there, you will need to update your time zone settings to ensure your schedule remains accurate.
To support this change, we have added three new dedicated time zones. If you have lessons scheduled for November 1st and later, you can easily update your calendar using our built-in migration tool.
The New Time Zones
Depending on where you or your students are located, you will need to update your current time zone to the new Canadian-specific time zone:
Province | Old Time Zone | New Time Zone |
Alberta | Mountain Time (US & Canada) | Alberta Time |
British Columbia | Pacific Time (US & Canada) | Pacific Time (Canada) |
Manitoba | Central Time (US & Canada) | Central Time (Canada) |
How to Update Your Lessons
We have provided a "Migration Table" to help you quickly update lesson times for November 1st onward. There are two different methods you can use depending on whether you are updating students' individual lessons (Method 1) or if you'll be updating lessons company-wide (Method 2):
Method 1: Updating Lessons per Student
Use this method if you have students in British Columbia, Alberta, or Manitoba whose time zone differs from your company's account time zone.
NOTE: Before recalculating lessons, you must update the student’s profile time zone first. The migration tool will only list students whose profiles are already set to the new time zone.
Click on Students and then click on "Students".
Edit the student's profile by clicking on the "Edit" button.
Set the "Time Zone" field to new time zone that corresponds with the old one.
Submit the form to save your changes.
Click on the "Learning" tab if it's a Child Student or the "Scheduling" tab if it's an independent student.
Scroll down to the "Upcoming Lessons" section.
Click the "Recalculate lesson times" button.
In the "Filter" section at the top of the page:
In the "US & Canada Time Zone" field, select the previous time zone currently assigned to the lessons (e.g., Mountain Time (US & Canada)).
In the "Convert Scope" field, select Per student.
Click the Filter button.
Any students who have upcoming lessons starting November 1 onward in that time zone will appear in the "Students with Eligible Lessons" table. Use the checkboxes on the left-hand side to select the specific students you want to update (or select the header checkbox to select all).
Click the blue "Convert selected students' lessons" button.
The conversion runs in the background. Wait a few minutes and refresh your page to verify that the updated lesson times appear correctly on the calendar.
Method 2 - Updating Lessons Company Wide
Use this method if your business is based in British Columbia, Alberta, or Manitoba and you want to update all upcoming lessons across your entire account.
NOTE: A company-wide conversion requires your account’s primary time zone to be set to the new provincial time zone first. You must save your new account time zone in steps 1–3 before the migration tool can convert company lessons.
Click on Account and then click on "Account Settings".
Click on the "Company & Administration" tab.
Scroll down to the "Localization Settings" section.
Set the "Time Zone" field to new time zone that corresponds with the old one.
Submit the form to save your changes.
Scroll back down to the "Localization Settings" section and click on the "Canada Time Zone Migration" button.
In the "Filter" section at the top of the page:
In the "US & Canada Time Zone" field, select the previous time zone currently assigned to the lessons (e.g., Mountain Time (US & Canada)).
In the "Convert Scope" field, select "Company-Wide".
NOTE: If your are using the 2-way Sync for Google Calendar or standard calendar feeds, your exported events may not automatically update to reflect this time zone change. Because it is uncertain how Google Calendar and other third-party apps will process the removal of Daylight Saving Time for these specific regions, you may need to manually resync your calendars if lesson times do not appear correctly. You can find instructions on how to resync below:
