How Do I Match My Resume to a Job?

This will be the job description used to match against your resume for guidance and recommendations.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Select a Job in Job Matcher

Head to your Resume Builder and click "Job Matcher" in the top toolbar to open the tool. Here, you'll see the option to search for a job, select a bookmarked one, or add a new position manually.

Search For a Job

Instead of matching to a job that you previously bookmarked, you can search our full database of job listings directly within the Job Matcher!

When clicking into the search bar, you'll notice that we have search suggestions provided. These are based on the Target Title in your resume, your most recent position title in your Work Experience, and your Target Title provided in your Home page's Career Goals widget.

Select a Bookmarked Job

You can match to a role you've already bookmarked to your Job Tracker as well. Clicking into the search bar will surface a pre-populated list of your bookmarked jobs that you can select from. You can also search for them directly by title!

Add a New Job Manually

Found a job that you haven't bookmarked yet? You can still create a job for matching manually!

Hover over the "Add a Job Description" form with your cursor and fill out the appropriate fields. Once you've inputted all the details, select "Match Job" to save the role to your Job Tracker and automatically match it to your resume.

Generate a Job Summary

Once you've selected a job, we will work to generate a Job Summary.

The Job Summary is used to pull keywords from only those important job description sections: core responsibilities, core requirements, and core qualifications.

Using the full job description can often misinterpret keywords in the "Benefits" or "Accessibility" sections as being related to the core function of the job. We use the Job Summary to avoid this!

Occasionally, the Job Summary may take a moment to load.

While the Job Summary is loading, you'll see this screen appear in the "Job Description" tab.

Once the summary has been generated, you'll see the option to refresh the page.

NOTE: Your Job Summary should not take longer than a few minutes to generate. If you are experiencing an endless load time, review that role in your Job Tracker and ensure that:

  1. A full job description exists and is saved to that role

  2. The job description does not have any unusual formatting (e.g., symbols) or content that is irrelevant to the role (e.g., company bio)

What if I want to see the full job description?

You always have the option to view the full job description by toggling the "Show Full Job Description" on. Toggling this off will return you to the Job Summary.

How do I change my matched job?

To match the same resume to a different job description, scroll to the top of the page and click the "Switch Job" button.

NOTE: If you are a Teal+ user, you'll notice the "Run Auto Selection" button in the Job Matcher view. This is a feature that will turn on/off content within your Resume Builder according to its relevance to the connected job description.
