What Are Relationships in Teamflect?

In Teamflect, the Relationships feature (previously known as "Focus People") allows you to track and manage important professional connections beyond your direct reporting line. These might include mentors, mentees, project leads, dotted-line managers, or onboarding buddies.

You’ll still see your manager and direct reports under “My Team” (on the homepage). But the Relationships section gives you a broader and more flexible view of the people you work closely with — across departments or projects.

If your manager or direct reports don’t show automatically, it likely means your company hasn't uploaded the organizational chart via Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD). You can share this guide with your IT admins to set this up.

How to Add a Relationship

To add someone under Relationships:

  1. Navigate to the Relationships page (in the Admin Center: Users > Relationships).

  2. Click “Add relationship”

  3. Choose a relationship type (e.g., Mentor-Mentee, Dotted Line Manager).

  4. Select the participants.

  5. Click Save.

Depending on the type, the other person may:

  • Simply be added to your My Team view,

  • Or receive a notification or approval request, if the tag grants access to private performance data.

Relationship types are fully customizable by your Teamflect Administrators. Access permissions, naming, and visibility can all be configured.

How to Remove a Relationship

To remove someone from your list:

  1. Click their name on the homepage or search using User Search.

  2. On their profile, locate the relationship tag under their photo.

  3. Click the X next to the tag and confirm.

The other party will not be notified. Removal is silent and immediate.

HR Use Cases

  1. Matrix Leadership Structures
Use relationships to define and manage dotted-line reporting or cross-functional oversight (e.g., project or competency leads).

  2. Mentorship & Development
Tag mentors, mentees, or learning partners to track coaching conversations and development check-ins over time.

  3. New Hire Support
Assign onboarding buddies or training supervisors to new employees, ensuring smoother transitions without altering the org chart.

Final Thoughts

Teamflect’s Relationships feature brings flexibility to people management. Whether you're mapping mentorship programs, enabling dotted-line leadership, or simply keeping track of key collaborators, Relationships help HR teams and managers stay aligned without relying solely on static org charts. By customizing relationship types and access levels, you can mirror your real-world working dynamics inside Teamflect — accurately and securely.
