Wallpapers are high-resolution astrophotography images created by Telescope Live users. These stunning images are processed from datasets available on the platform and are showcased in the Telescope Live Gallery for the community to explore, share, and download. Wallpapers celebrate the creativity and skill of astrophotographers while fostering a collaborative environment where members can inspire and support each other.

What Are Wallpapers?

Wallpapers are the processed final images created by astrophotographers using Telescope Live datasets. They represent the culmination of skill, creativity, and advanced post-processing techniques applied to raw data.

Each wallpaper is:

  • Linked to Its Original Dataset: Every wallpaper is directly associated with the dataset used to create it. This allows other users to access the same dataset and attempt their own processing.

  • Featured as a Dataset Preview: For each dataset, the best wallpaper is selected as the featured wallpaper and displayed as a preview image. This featured wallpaper not only showcases the potential of the dataset but also links back to its creator's gallery submission.

  • Low-Resolution Preview Available: Unless grabbed by a user, only a low-resolution version of the wallpaper is displayed in the Gallery and on the dataset page. The high-resolution version is locked and can only be accessed with credits.

  • Downloadable in High Resolution: High-resolution wallpapers can be grabbed by other members for 1 credit. This credit goes directly to the author of the wallpaper, rewarding their work and encouraging community engagement.

Wallpapers provide a creative outlet for astrophotographers and serve as an example of what’s possible with Telescope Live datasets.

How Are Wallpapers Linked to Datasets?

Wallpapers are tightly integrated with datasets, allowing users to explore the raw data behind every image.

  • Featured Wallpaper: Each dataset includes a featured wallpaper—a standout image selected to represent the dataset. This wallpaper is displayed as the preview image for the dataset, allowing users to see what’s possible before grabbing the data.

  • Transparency: Each wallpaper includes detailed information about the dataset used, including the telescope, filters, and exposure times.

  • Dataset Access: Users who view a wallpaper can navigate to its linked dataset. This makes it easy to download the same dataset and try their own hand at processing it.

  • Metadata Alignment: Metadata from the dataset is carried forward into the wallpaper's description, helping users understand how the image was created.

This connection between wallpapers and datasets encourages learning, experimentation, and collaboration within the Telescope Live community.

How to Upload Wallpapers

Uploading your processed images as wallpapers is a great way to share your work, inspire others, and earn credits.

  • Grab and Process a Dataset: Start by grabbing a dataset from Telescope Live and processing it into a final image using astrophotography software like PixInsight or Photoshop.

  • Navigate to the Dataset: Go to the dataset page that corresponds to the raw data you used for processing.

  • Click Post Wallpaper: Use the “Post Wallpaper” button on the dataset page to upload your image.

  • Provide Details: Add a title and description to showcase your work. Make sure to highlight unique aspects of your processing or techniques, such as how you combined filters, overcame challenges, or enhanced specific features of the celestial object.

  • Submit: Once submitted, your wallpaper will appear in the Telescope Live Gallery for the community to explore.

How to Download Wallpapers

Wallpapers in the Gallery are free to browse, but high-resolution downloads require 1 credit. This credit goes directly to the author as a reward for their work.

  • Browse the Gallery: Explore the Telescope Live Gallery to find wallpapers that inspire you.

  • Preview the Image: Click on a wallpaper to view its details, including a lower-resolution preview and its linked dataset.

  • Grab the Wallpaper: Use 1 credit to download the high-resolution version. The credit will be transferred to the author as part of the platform’s community reward system.

Downloading wallpapers is a great way to appreciate the work of others or decorate your space with stunning celestial imagery.

How to Engage with the Gallery and Community

The Gallery is more than a collection of images—it’s a hub for creativity, recognition, and collaboration. Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Like: Show your appreciation for other users' work by liking their wallpapers.

  • Explore Popular Wallpapers: Use filters and sorting options to find the most-liked, recently uploaded, or top-rated wallpapers.
