They showcase your post-processing skills and are shared in the Telescope Live Gallery for the community to view and download. You can only post a Wallpaper if you’ve grabbed the dataset it was created from.

Step-by-Step: Posting a Wallpaper

  1. Grab and Process a Dataset

Before you can post a Wallpaper, you must first grab a dataset from Telescope Live. Only images processed from datasets you’ve downloaded are eligible.

Process the raw FITS files using your preferred astrophotography software (e.g. PixInsight, Photoshop, Affinity Photo) to create your final image.

  2. Navigate to the Dataset Page
Go to the dataset you used. Each Wallpaper must be linked to the original dataset it was created from.

  3. Click “Post Wallpaper”
You’ll find this button on the dataset page. Clicking it opens the upload form.

  4. Upload Your Image
Select your final processed image file (high-resolution). Only one image can be uploaded per wallpaper post.

  5. Add Details

    • Title: Give your wallpaper a descriptive or creative name.

    • Description: Describe your workflow or highlight key processing steps, challenges, or creative choices.

  6. Submit
Once submitted, your Wallpaper will appear in the Telescope Live Gallery, linked to its corresponding dataset.

What Happens Next?

  • Your Wallpaper becomes visible to the entire community.

  • Users can grab your Wallpaper in high resolution for 1 credit.

  • Every time your Wallpaper is grabbed, you earn 1 credit—a great way to build up credits for future datasets or tutorials.

Tips for Great Wallpaper Posts

  • Ensure your image is sharp and free of artefacts.

  • Share interesting details in your description (e.g. colour mapping, noise reduction techniques).

  • Use a descriptive title that helps others find your work in the Gallery.
