Zones can be made from different types of data layers.
Create Zone
Begin by navigating to Zones and selecting 'Create Zone' in the bottom right of Zone List view.
2. Select the data layer to use for zone creation:
A. Logged Data - Use logged data such as Veris or yield.
B. Sample Events - Create zones from soil or tissue sample results.
C. Satellite Imagery Map Layers - Create zones from NDVI satellite imagery (Sentinel)
D. Soil Survey (SSURGO) - Create zones from USDA soil zones and can be split, merged or otherwise.
E. Free Form - Initially, this makes a zone including the whole field boundary, but can be split, merged or otherwise as desired.
F. Upload Shapefile Upload a shapefile of a zone from a grower, third-party sampler, grower, etc.
3. Each zone type will take you through the same options. For this example, the Soil Survey will be used.
4. To use a different field, the user can select 'Change' from the screenshot above, which will bring up an interface to search from (shown below).
5. Use the search box and choose the field. Select 'Done' when finished.
6. After selecting the layer and hitting 'Next', the system will display the edit window.
Edit Zones
Whether editing a zone or creating a new one, this stage of the wizard is the same.
A. Pencil - Use to change the name of the saved zone.
B. Breakpoint Options - The user has the option to use the slider or click the values to enter custom ranges. Please Note: This option is only available when a zone is created from a layer and is not available when editing a Zone uploaded from another system.
C. Configure Zone - Defaults to 3 zones but may be increased or decreased. Also can select the minimum zone size here. Select 'Update Map' to see changes.
D. Layer Option - Turn on SSURGO layer or change base layer.
E. Slider - Used to verify the zone matches up to the actual data. All the way down is 100% zone transparency and sliding up will begin to show the actual coverage map.
F. Add Attributes - Add a rate column or multiple rate columns.
G. Span and Area - This displays the zone area break down.
H. Dissolve Zones -This tool dissolves zones with the same value
2. Other edit options can be found in the toolbar along the left-hand side of the map area:
A. Measuring Tools - Use either the line of the polygon to measure distances if needed. You can then use the trash can to delete it.
B. Selection Tool - Use this tool to select a zone. This is ideal when selecting zones that you would like to merge together or to select a zone and then edit the shape of the selection.
C. Split with Line - After a zone is selected, use this tool to draw a line or divide within the selected polygon.
D. Split with Polygon - After a zone is selected, use this tool to create a polygon within the selected zone.
E. Split with Circle - After a zone is selected, use this tool to create a circle or pivot within the selected zone area. *For the example below, this tool will be used.
F. Explode Tool - After selecting a zone that includes multiple polygons, separate them into individual zones by clicking this icon.
G. Merge Tool - After selecting two or more zones, use this icon to merge the selected zones into one.
H. Undo - Use this tool to undo the last actions.
3. To make two zones for a pivot field (one for the pivot, one for the corners), utilize the "Split with Circle tool". After drawing the pivot, you will have two separate application areas and can begin to add your Attribute Columns (rate columns) accordingly.
4. You can also split a multi-part polygon into individual zones. This can be useful in many instances, including a field whose boundary is made up of multiple polygons that you would like to set different rates for.
5. After splitting, you can merge some polygons back into the same zone if you like.
6. When adding an Attribute column, there are a few things to keep in mind:
A. Name - Assign a name to the new column.
B. Evenly Distribute - The system will display a window allowing the user to evenly split a range of values. See the screenshot below.
C. Trashcan Icon - Delete a user-created column.
D. Re-Numbering - Click and drag to re-number zones.
💡Re-numbering is only available for zones without span, such as SSURGO, uploaded and free-form zones.

7. After completing the attribute information, select 'Download' to export the shapefile or 'Save' to store the zone within TELUS Agronomy for later use.
