How do I request Renters Insurance from tenants?

Updated over a month ago

We are glad to inform you that we have partnered with Assurant to make buying Renters Insurance easy and simple for your tenants! Policies also help tenants affordably meet the liability insurance requirement within most leases.

This option is only available for purchase in the USA.

Renters Insurance can be requested during the "Move In" process separately from the lease and tenants can buy it before or after the lease becomes active.

Choose the "Move in" option from the Leases page.

If you are using the New Navigation layout, open the Renters page from the Property Operations left-side menu and switch to the Leases tab to see all the leases.

On the "Tenants" step, select whether you require your tenants to purchase Renters Insurance.

You can also choose whether you want your tenants to provide proof of insurance before they’re able to sign the agreement or make payments.

Please note that Assurant is currently unable to provide with Renters insurance to the following unit types: mobile/manufactured home, storage, commercial premise, room, garage. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you don't want your tenants to purchase Renters Insurance, you can switch off this option and click on the “Continue” button to proceed with the lease creation without Renters Insurance:

That's it! Your tenants will be required to purchase the Renters Insurance. Once they do it, you'll be notified and the “Insurance” section will become active. The insurance request is pending before that.

You can also request insurance after the lease becomes active. To do so, open the lease and click on the “Request“ link in the “Insurance” section.

Note that you cannot request insurance if the lease is the draft status or has ended.
