Troubleshooting Guide: Smart Charging

Understanding how Tenet smart charges your vehicle and ensuring that no other devices or applications are controlling your vehicle's charging can help resolve common issues.


How smart charging works

  1. Disabled: Smart charging is turned off.

  2. Enabled: Smart charging is turned on.

  3. Initializing: Conditions for smart charging are being evaluated.

  4. Charging: Smart charging has started, and your vehicle is charging.

  5. Fully charged: Your vehicle has been charged to the maximum threshold.

Smart charging will not function properly if your vehicles charging is controlled by any other devices or 3rd party applications. If these are enabled, please disable and plug your vehicle in again.

Issues Initializing

If we're having trouble starting smart charging for your vehicle, make sure the following conditions are met:

  • The vehicle is plugged in at your primary home charging location (update the location in settings if changed).

  • The charging cable and charger are functional and powered.

  • The vehicle has some charge; it cannot be at zero.

  • No third-party applications are controlling your vehicle's charging.

  • Your vehicle credentials are up-to-date; reconnect with the correct credentials in settings if needed.

  • Mobile access is enabled in-vehicle; check your vehicle's control menu under "Safety" to enable it. Wording may vary by make and model.

Issues Charging

If we're having trouble charging your vehicle, ensure the following conditions are met:

  • The vehicle remains plugged in.

  • The charging cable and charger are functional and have power.

  • No third-party applications or manual interventions have stopped charging.

  • Your vehicle credentials are up-to-date; re-connect your vehicle account in smart charging settings if necessary.

  • It’s not too close to your scheduled ready time, in some cases smart charging might not initiate if the window is too small.

Note: If you have set a minimum protective charge threshold (ex. 10%) we will immediate charge until that minimum percentage is met before prioritizing low-cost charging.
