Most planners spend significant time identifying where things are going wrong: which items are about to stock out, which locations are holding excess, and where orders may be incorrect. Opportunity Engine™ does this analysis automatically, every day, and then surfaces specific opportunities with suggested solutions.
It reduces the time spent hunting for issues and shifts your workflow toward fast, targeted action. Because the tool learns from your preferences, the insights become increasingly relevant over time.
What Opportunity Engine™ Is
Opportunity Engine™ is Netstock’s AI-powered functionality designed to:
Analyse all inventory data across your locations.
Anticipate potential problems before they impact service or working capital.
Provide real-time recommendations linked to your operational data.
Suggest practical actions based on the conditions inside the app.
It is available to all customers at no additional cost.
How It Helps
The app already highlights issues such as excess stock, surplus orders, and stockouts. Opportunity Engine™ enhances this by adding data-driven suggested actions for many of those problem areas.
Examples include:
Redistributing excess from one location to another.
Expediting an order before a stock out occurs.
Cancelling or adjusting surplus orders.
Highlighting emergency order needs when no replenishment is in place.
Navigating Opportunity Engine™
Proactive Banner on Login
When you log in each day, you will see a proactive opportunity banner at the top of the Dashboard. This shows one opportunity Netstock AI™ has identified.
You can:
Click More opportunities to see additional suggestions
Dismiss the banner
Mute the banner for the selected location (from the Opportunities page)
Opportunities Menu
You can access all opportunities at any time by selecting Opportunities in the left pane. A red badge appears when there are unseen opportunities.
Users can filter all opportunities by location.
Opportunity Types Identified by Netstock AI™
Netstock AI™ currently identifies nine types of opportunities automatically and presents them in a clear, user-friendly way.
Potential Stock Outs
Potential stock out where an order exists but needs to be expedited
Potential stock out where there is excess in another location that could be moved
Potential stock out where no order is in place, requiring an emergency order
Actual Stock Outs
Stock out where an existing order is too late and needs expediting
Stock out where excess in another location could be moved
Stock out where no order exists, requiring an emergency order
Surplus Orders
Surplus order where the quantity is excessive, but the excess could serve another location
Surplus order where the quantity is excessive and needs to be cancelled, reduced, or delayed
Excess Stock
Excess stock in one location that could be redistributed to a shortfall location
Viewing and Interpreting Opportunities
On the Opportunities screen, click Show me on the opportunity panel to reveal details.
Each opportunity includes:
A description of the issue
A suggested action
An option to view additional opportunities
Opportunities can be filtered by location.
A user will not see suggestions involving locations they do not have access to.
Example: If excess exists in one location but the shortfall is in a restricted-access location, redistribution will not be suggested.
Region-Level Ordering and AI Opportunities
If you order at a region level, ensure the region is configured to display its AI opportunities:
Add or edit the regional location.
Enable Show AI Opportunities for this region.
Training Netstock AI™
Opportunity Engine™ improves based on your usage. Each user can train the AI by:
Using thumbs up and thumbs down to indicate which opportunities are most useful
Permanently muting a location to stop seeing opportunities from that location and remove the proactive banner
Unmuting a location at any time from the Muted locations panel
⚠️ Watchouts
Location access rules: Opportunity Engine™ will never suggest actions involving locations a user does not have permission to access.
Regional ordering setup: Users who order at a region level must enable Show AI Opportunities for this region or no opportunities will appear for that region.
Muted locations: Muting a location hides all opportunities from that location, including the proactive daily banner.
💡 Tips
Let the AI learn your preferences: Use thumbs up/down often. The ranking of opportunities adjusts to place the most relevant insights at the top.
Use cross-location suggestions wisely: Relocations and redistributions can quickly resolve stockouts while reducing excess across the network.
Review opportunities daily: Most opportunity conditions (stockouts, excess, surplus orders) change frequently. Daily review ensures you act before problems escalate.
