For necessary background, please pre-read Understanding Forecast Adjustments & Freezing before proceeding with this article.
Purpose
This guide explains how to defrost (revert) a previously frozen forecast so the system can regenerate values automatically.
Defrosting is necessary when a manual adjustment is no longer valid or when market conditions have returned to normal.
Step 1: Identify Frozen Forecasts
Frozen forecasts can be identified in several places throughout the app. A few examples are:
Inquiry > Forecast tab: A snowflake icon appears beside the months that have been manually adjusted and frozen.
Reports: Certain reports include a snowflake icon to indicate that one or more months in the forecast are frozen.
Order Schedule: Items with frozen forecasts display a snowflake icon next to the relevant demand values.
Step 2: Defrost Forecasts at Item Level
Navigate to Inquiry > Forecast tab for the affected item.
Click Amend Forecast.
To defrost selected months:
• Untick the months you no longer wish to keep frozen.
• To defrost all months, click the Defrost button.
Click Apply new forecast to confirm your changes. (Item level forecast adjustments save automatically, but hitting Apply ensures good practice).
The snowflake icons disappear, indicating that the selected months have been unfrozen.
The system will regenerate new forecasts for these months during the next monthly forecast run.
Step 3: Defrost Forecasts at Macro Level
Users cannot defrost multiple items at once within the app interface.
To revert frozen forecasts applied through a macro-level adjustment, you have three options:
Contact Support: Request that the frozen forecasts be defrosted in the back end.
If your company has the Advanced Forecasting module:
Download the forecast file.
Copy the values in the Computer forecast columns to the Upload columns.
Re-upload the corrected data, ensuring the appropriate update box is ticked. This process replaces the frozen forecasts with new, editable values.
Defrost individually on the Inquiry screen: Open each affected item and defrost one by one. This method is functional but not efficient for large-scale changes.
Step 4: Verify the Status
Return to the Forecast tab to confirm that the snowflake icons have been removed where required. Spot check one or two items.
Verify system behavior:
Frozen: Values remain fixed and are excluded from regeneration.
Defrosted: Values will update automatically during the next monthly forecast run.
⚠️ Watchouts
Bulk Defrost Limitations: Macro-level defrosts cannot be performed by users; only Support or the Advanced Forecasting module can quickly revert them in bulk.
Loss of Manual Adjustments: Once defrosted, any previously entered manual values are replaced during regeneration. Verify accuracy before defrosting.
💡 Tips
Prevent Unnecessary Freezes: Only freeze forecasts that must remain static; doing so minimizes later defrost work.
