Missing Recommended Orders Explained

Quick Summary: Missing Recommended Orders occur when an item’s stock status or demand logic prevents the system from generating an ROQ. Stocked, non-stocked, and obsolete items each follow different rules, and understanding these rules helps you troubleshoot why an expected recommendation does not appear.

When Recommended Orders Should Appear

The app displays a Recommended Order for any stocked item when its Net Stock is at or below the Reorder Point. This is the standard replenishment trigger. When Net Stock is above the Reorder Point, no order is recommended because the system believes there is enough stock to last through lead time and maintain required protection levels.

Why Obsolete Items Show No Recommended Orders

Obsolete items never generate Recommended Orders. This is true even if Net Stock is below the Reorder Point or even negative. The system treats obsolete items as items that should not be replenished under any circumstances.

How Non-Stocked Items Behave Differently

Non-stocked items do not use ordering levels such as the Reorder Point or the Order Up To Level. Instead, the logic focuses entirely on whether firm demand exceeds Net Stock.

A Recommended Order is generated only when:

  • Firm demand is greater than Net Stock

  • The item must be replenished to prevent a backorder or fulfil a confirmed requirement

The goal for a non-stocked item is always to reach a Net Stock position of zero unless supplier constraints (MOQ or OM) force a higher quantity.

⚠️ Watchouts

  • Obsolete items never generate Recommended Orders: Even if Net Stock falls below the Reorder Point, the app will not propose an order for an item marked as obsolete.

  • Non-stocked items follow different rules: These items only generate a Recommended Order if firm demand exceeds Net Stock, which means they can show ROQs even when stocked items would not.

💡 Tips

  • Check item status first: Before troubleshooting a missing recommended order, confirm whether the item is stocked, non-stocked, or obsolete. This eliminates unnecessary investigation.
