Quick Summary: Regional classification prioritizes planning and stock investment by combining aggregated sales history from linked branches to assign an overall classification reflecting regional demand.

For necessary background, please preread Manually vs. Auto-Classified Items Explained before proceeding.

Why It Matters

An item’s classification, whether it is Stocked, Non-Stocked, or Obsolete, is fundamental to how the app manages it. Understanding how a region inherits or determines this status is key to ensuring the correct inventory policies are applied at the regional level.

Scenario 1: Region with No Primary Location

When a region has no primary location, the app determines its classification from the most stocked status among its linked branches, following this hierarchy:
Stocked → Non-Stocked → Obsolete

  • If the region ends up Stocked, it will be auto-classified.

  • If the region ends up Non-Stocked or Obsolete, it will be manually classified.

Scenario 2: Region with a Primary Location

When a region has a primary location, the region’s classification is copied directly from that location.

  • If the primary location is auto-classified, the region is also auto-classified.

  • If an item does not exist at the primary location, the “no primary location” rules apply instead.

Manually Changing Classification

You can manually change the stocking indicator for a region on the Stock Inquiry page, provided that the stocking indicator is not imported from the ERP system.

  • Changing to Non-Stocked or Obsolete makes the classification manual and the status will remain.

  • Changing to Auto-Classified may not remain stocked; the auto-classification rules will run during the next update and can change it again.

💡 Tips

  • Use Policy Overrides: If you need a specific classification for a region regardless of its member locations, create a policy override to lock it in.
