How to digitize a technical test

Learn how to digitize a technical test in TestKokoro to evaluate candidates' specific knowledge and use it in your recruitment processes.

Updated over a week ago

The Digitize your test module allows you to create customized technical tests to measure knowledge specific to a role.

With this functionality, you can, for example, transform a technical test you already use (whether in PDF or document format) into a digital test within TestKokoro, so it can be applied directly to candidates during your recruitment processes.

Digitized technical tests are automatically saved in the Library, within the Technical category, and can later be assigned to the profile of the role you want to evaluate.

How to create a technical test

To start digitizing a technical test:

Log in to your TestKokoro account.

In the left side menu, click on "Digitize your test".

Then:

Configure the general information of the test (name, description, passing percentage, and time).

Add the questions according to the type you want to use.

Save the test to create it in the platform.

1. Configure the test information

On the left side of the module, you configure the general information of the test.

You must complete the following fields:

Test name

This is the name visible to candidates.

Example:
Technical Knowledge – IT Support

Test description

Explain what the test evaluates and what knowledge the candidate should have.

Example:

"This assessment measures basic knowledge of infrastructure, networks, and troubleshooting technical issues."

Passing percentage (%)

Defines the minimum score the candidate must achieve to pass the test.

Example:

If you set 70%, the candidate must answer at least 70% of the questions correctly.

Test duration (minutes)

You can set the total duration of the test.

Example:

30 minutes.

You can also select Unlimited time if you do not want to set a time limit.

2. Add questions to the test

On the right side of the module, you can choose the type of question you want to use.

Each question type allows you to evaluate different aspects of the candidate’s technical knowledge.

You can add as many questions as you want within each type.

When creating a question you have the following options:

Assign a score

Define the correct answers

Save and add another question

This allows you to build the test progressively.

Available question types

Below are the available question types and when to use each one.

Single choice

Focus: specific technical knowledge.

Evaluates specific concepts where there is only one correct answer.

It is ideal for validating concrete knowledge or technical definitions.

Example

What is the main function of a REST API?

A) Design graphical interfaces
B) Allow communication between systems ✅
C) Store data
D) Run background processes

Multiple choice

Focus: technical judgment and deeper understanding.

Allows the candidate to identify multiple correct answers within the options.

It is useful to evaluate comprehensive understanding or technical best practices.

Example

Which of the following practices contribute to application security?

◼ Use of strong passwords ✅
◼ Input data validation ✅
◼ Disable updates
◼ Access control ✅

True or False

Focus: basic concepts and conceptual clarity.

Allows you to quickly evaluate whether the candidate understands fundamental concepts.

It is especially useful for initial screening.

Example

Automated tests help detect errors early.

True ✅
False

Open-ended answer

Focus: analysis and communication skills.

Allows you to evaluate the candidate’s reasoning, their ability to explain processes, or solve situations.

The response format is free text.

Example

Describe the steps you would follow to resolve an error reported by a client on a digital platform.

File or image

Focus: visual analysis and practical application.

Allows you to present an image or file for the candidate to analyze a situation and select the correct answer.

It is useful for evaluating interpretation of dashboards, code, charts, or interfaces.

Example

Observe the attached dashboard image.
Which indicator shows a possible system failure?

A) High CPU usage ✅
B) Number of active users
C) Update date
D) Project name

Text or case

Focus: comprehension, analysis, and decision-making.

Presents a scenario or situation that the candidate must analyze to choose the best answer.

It is ideal for evaluating technical judgment and problem solving.

Example

A client reports that the application works correctly in the morning but fails during peak hours.

What should be the first step to analyze the problem?

A) Restart the system
B) Analyze resource consumption during peak hours ✅
C) Close open tickets
D) Replace the entire infrastructure

Time-limited

Focus: mental agility and response speed.

This question type evaluates the ability to answer under time pressure.

It is useful for measuring quick thinking or knowledge that should arise immediately.

Example

You have 30 seconds to answer:

What is the main objective of a database?

A) Execute processes
B) Store and organize information ✅
C) Design interfaces
D) Connect users

Saving questions and the test

While creating the test you can:

Save the question

Save and add another to continue creating questions of the same type

Save draft

Once the test configuration is finished, you can:

Save

Save test

Both options perform the same action: create the final test in the platform.

Where is the test saved?

Once saved, the test:

Is stored in the Library section

Within the Technical category

Becomes available to assign it to the corresponding job profile

This way you can include it in your recruitment processes to evaluate candidates' specific knowledge.

How are results displayed in the report?

Once the candidate completes the digitized technical test, the results are automatically reflected in the corresponding reports.

Candidate general report

In the candidate's general report, the information related to the technical test appears on page 2 of the report.

There you will see:

  • Whether the candidate passed or failed the test, according to the configured passing percentage.

  • The number of questions answered correctly.

  • The approval percentage obtained in the test.

Important about question scoring

When creating each question, it is possible to assign a score. However, this value is used only for the internal calculation of the result.

The report will not display the numerical score assigned to each question (for example, 5 points per question).

Instead, the report will display:

  • Number of correctly answered questions

  • Approval percentage obtained

This percentage is calculated automatically based on the score configured in the questions and the passing percentage defined in the test.

NOTE: In the case of the “Open-ended question” type, a score will not be assigned automatically. The responses will be included in the Excel report of the corresponding process, so they can be evaluated in a personalized way.

Process Excel report

In addition to the individual candidate report, you can also download the Excel report for the process from the corresponding evaluation.

This file contains the complete information for the evaluation process.

Within the file, you will find a specific tab with the detailed responses of the digitized technical test(s) used in that process.

In this tab you will be able to see:

  • All candidates invited to the process who took the technical test

  • Their answers to each question

  • The details of each digitized technical test used in that process

If multiple digitized technical tests were used in the same process, they will all appear detailed within this same Excel tab.

Important

The detailed responses are only displayed in the case of digitized technical tests.

Technical tests integrated into the TestKokoro platform do not display the questions or answer details in the reports. This is a security and anti-cheating measure to prevent questions and answers from being shared or circulated externally.

In these cases, the candidate's general report will only show whether the candidate passed or failed the test.
