Objective
The goal of this guide is to demonstrate how to create a custom test using the 250 competencies available on our platform, optimizing the evaluation of candidates according to the established job profiles.
Steps to Use the Section
Step 1: Access the “Create Your Test” section
Click on the “Create Your Test” option from the platform’s main panel.
Step 2: Enter the job title and search for competencies
Enter the name of the position you wish to evaluate and perform a search to find competencies related to the profile. This will allow you to select the most relevant competencies.
Step 3: Review and adjust the competencies suggested by the system
The system will display competencies related to the job with a highlighted border. If any are not relevant, you can remove them by clicking on the cross icon. If you wish to add additional competencies that were not included in the search, select the “plus” icon.
To search for specific competencies, use the "Search Competency" option by name. If you prefer to explore competencies organized by categories, go to the "All Competencies" option.
Step 4: Calibrate each competency based on the job hierarchy
Calibrate the selected competencies according to the position's hierarchy or level. This calibration adjusts the difficulty level of each competency based on the evaluated role, ensuring the results are accurate and relevant.
Enable the "Global Calibration" switch to set the same hierarchy for all added competencies.
NOTE: While it is possible to calibrate each competency individually, we recommend using the global calibrator so that all competencies are measured with the same level of hierarchy.
Step 5: Add a personalized description (Optional)
You can add a custom description to the test to specify details about the evaluation objective, the competencies assessed, and any other relevant information.
Step 6: Save the custom test
Click “Save” to complete the setup. The test will automatically be saved in the “Library” section under the “Custom” category.
Key Features of Custom Tests
Visual Identification: Custom tests are highlighted in orange, making them easy to distinguish from other categories.
Calibration: Each competency can be adjusted with a specific hierarchy. We recommend maintaining uniform calibration across all competencies in a test, as this influences the benchmarks used to determine the expected score. This approach ensures consistent evaluation parameters.
Duration: Before saving a test, you can view its estimated maximum duration next to the “Save” option.
Tips and Best Practices
Uniform Calibration: Apply an appropriate and consistent hierarchy for each competency to evaluate skills accurately according to the job level.
Balanced Duration: Consider the test’s average and maximum durations. For example, with an average duration of 14 minutes and a maximum of 32 minutes, including around eight competencies achieves a good balance between duration and depth.
Clear Descriptions: Add specific descriptions to help evaluators and candidates understand the test’s objectives and expectations.
Common Errors and How to Avoid Them
Gaps in Evaluated Competencies:
Common Error: The global score and/or the scores of specific competencies in the evaluation report may exceed the scale used to determine job-fit percentages.
Cause: This is often due to inadequate calibration of competencies. For instance, if a competency is calibrated at a level below what the position requires, the results may inaccurately reflect the candidate’s skills.
Solution: Ensure all competencies are calibrated correctly based on the job’s hierarchy. Maintaining this consistency in calibration is essential for accurate results and avoiding misinterpretations of candidate performance.
Inadequate Evaluation Time:
Common Error: Creating a test with too many competencies, which may extend the evaluation time beyond the recommended duration.
Solution: Adjust the number of competencies to stay within the estimated duration. This not only optimizes the candidate’s experience but also improves the efficiency of the evaluation process.
Conclusion
Creating custom tests based on competencies allows the selection process to be tailored to the specific needs of each role, offering more precise and relevant evaluations. By following the steps and recommendations outlined above, you can maximize the value of these evaluations and achieve results that accurately reflect candidates’ potential.
