Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an extra layer of security, used to make sure that people trying to gain access to an online account are who they say they are. It requires the user to first enter their username and password, then they are required to provide a second piece of information, usually from a separate device like a smartphone or tablet, to confirm their identity. This means that if someone’s password is compromised, the chances of someone else having the second-factor information is highly unlikely.

Within Paycircle, you can enable 2FA for your bureau, so that any admins with access to the payroll portal, including group and company admins, will need 2FA in order to login to their account.

Turning on 2FA

The first step to configuring 2FA is turning it on at the bureau level. To do this, follow the steps below.

  1. Head to the Bureau settings area, and then to Access.

  2. Within the Authentication tab, click Edit against Two factor authentication, and toggle on 2FA.

You will now need to choose whether admins need to re-authenticate every time they login to the payroll portal, or if they have to re-authenticate over a time period. If the Re-authentication period is set as a time period, you need to enter the duration of time between authentication periods.

Note: Once you turn on 2FA for your bureau, you will be automatically logged out, and need to configure 2FA for your login before you can sign back into Paycircle. When you’re happy with the 2FA settings, click Save.
